<div>Hace unos días viví una de las experiencias más difíciles de mi vida. Mientras estaba en el trabajo empecé a sentirme muy mal. Durante esa semana había estado enfermo, con tos y síntomas respiratorios, pero pensé que era algo pasajero.

<div>Como tengo antecedente de asma, intenté usar mi inhalador de rescate pensando que se trataba de una crisis asmática. Sin embargo, no funcionó y mi respiración empezó a empeorar rápidamente, la ambulancia tardó mucho en llegar, cuando finalmente llegué al hospital estaba en estado crítico con insuficiencia respiratoria, por lo que los médicos tuvieron que actuar de inmediato e ingresarme a terapia intensiva. Pasé dos días en terapia intensiva mientras lograban estabilizarme.

<div>Desde entonces he permanecido hospitalizado en el Hospital Español que fue el más cercano a mi trabajo, donde sigo recibiendo tratamiento por una infección pulmonar que provocó esta emergencia respiratoria. Mi recuperación ha sido más lenta de lo que esperaba y aún necesito oxígeno y tratamiento médico para que mis pulmones vuelvan a funcionar correctamente.

<div>Desafortunadamente, el seguro de gastos médicos mayores no cubrió la hospitalización debido a que tengo antecedente de asma considerado como condición preexistente. Y esto nos ha dejado enfrentando gastos médicos muy altos.

<div>A few days ago I went through one of the most difficult experiences of my life. While I was at work, I suddenly started feeling very unwell. Earlier that week I had been sick with a cough and respiratory symptoms, but I thought it was something minor that would pass.

<div>Because I have a history of asthma, I tried using my rescue inhaler thinking it was an asthma attack. However, it didn’t work and my breathing quickly became worse.

<div>By the time I finally arrived at the hospital, I was in critical condition with respiratory failure, and doctors had to act immediately and admit me to the intensive care unit. I spent two days in the ICU while they worked to stabilize me.

<div>Since then, I have remained hospitalized at the Hospital Español de México, where I am still receiving treatment for a lung infection that caused this respiratory emergency. My recovery has been slow, and I still need oxygen and medical treatment for my lungs to function properly again.

<div>Unfortunately, my health insurance did not cover the hospitalization because my asthma was considered a pre-existing condition. This has left my family and me facing very high medical expenses.

</div>
