<div>Soy papá de 2 hijos, a quienes les he dedicado mi vida, pero por más de 15 años también dediqué mi vida, como agente de Grupo Beta, a auxiliar, proteger, rescatar y ayudar a miles de personas migrantes.

<div>Quienes me conocen, saben que siempre realicé mi trabajo con vocación y pasión a favor de las personas que buscan una mejor vida. Pero actualmente me encuentro privado de libertad desde hace 15 meses en una cárcel de Ciudad Juárez por algo totalmente ajeno a mis funciones en Grupo Beta, no pierdo la esperanza de reunirme pronto con mis seres queridos y apelo a todos ustedes a apoyarme a lograr ese sueño.

<div>La tragedia del incendio ocurrido en la Estancia Migratoria provisional de Ciudad Juárez en marzo de 2023 dejó a 40 personas fallecidas, 15 mujeres sobrevivientes, 27 hombres heridos, pero también víctimas colaterales, una de ellas, soy yo, Juan Carlos Meza Cumplido.

<div>Ese mismo día me encontraba en el desierto a 55 kilómetros de la estación migratoria ayudando a un grupo de migrantes heridos. Con engaños, las autoridades me detuvieron alegando que yo era responsable de la gestión de protección civil de dicho espacio, utilizando documentos con información incompleta, sin fechas, no legibles y lo peor de todo, sin mi firma.

<div>Reitero que mi trabajo nada tenía que ver con la estancia migratoria, sino con labores de auxilio y rescate en los exteriores del centro: brindar ayuda humanitaria, asistencia migratoria, atención en crisis, orientación e información a las personas migrantes sobre sus derechos.

<div>El 12 de enero del 2024, en una de las audiencias, el Juez estableció una fianza de $2,000,000.00 (dos millones de pesos, $107,123.72USD) para acceder a la libertad condicional.
</div>
<div>Apelo, a quienes todavía creen en la justicia, a apoyar en lograr mi libertad, para poder volver a encontrarme con mi familia.

<div>I am a father of two children, to whom I have dedicated my life, however I also dedicated more than 15 of my life to my work as an agent of Grupo Beta, assisting, protecting, rescuing, and helping thousands of migrants.

<div>Those who know me are aware that I always performed my job with dedication and passion in favor of people seeking a better life. However, I have been deprived of my freedom for 15 months now in a prison in Ciudad Juárez for something completely unrelated to my duties at Grupo Beta.

<div>I have not lost hope of reuniting with my loved ones again and I appeal to all of you to support me in achieving that dream.

<div>The tragedy of the fire that occurred at the provisional detention center for migrants in Ciudad Juárez in March 2023 left 40 people dead, 15 women survivors, 27 men injured, but also collateral victims, one of them being myself, Juan Carlos Meza Cumplido.
</div>
<div>On that same day, I was in the desert, 55 kilometers from the detention center helping a group of injured migrants. With deceit, the authorities detained me, alleging that I was responsible for the civil protection management the detention center, using documents with incomplete information, no dates, not legible, and worst of all, without my signature.

<div>I reiterate that my work had nothing to do with the detention center, but rather with assistance and rescue work outside the center: providing humanitarian aid, migratory assistance, crisis care, guidance, and information to migrants about their rights.
</div>
<div>On January 12, 2024, during one of the hearings, the Judge set bail at $2,000,000.00 MXN ($107,123.72 USD) to access conditional freedom. I appeal to those who still believe in justice to support my release so that I can reunite with my family.

<div>Ich bin Vater von zwei Kindern, die mir mein Leben bedeuten. Seit mehr als 15 Jahren mache ich mit Leidenschaft meine Arbeit als Beamter und Einsatzleiter der „Grupo Beta“,  eine Rettungseinheit der mexikanischen Migrationspolizei, mit der ich im Grenzgebiet zwischen Mexiko und den USA Tausenden von Migrant*innen und Geflüchteten unterstützt  und aus dem Gelände geborgen habe.
</div>
<div>Wer mich kennt, weiß, dass ich meine Arbeit stets mit Hingabe und Leidenschaft zum Wohle der Menschen, die auf der Suche nach einem besseren Leben unterwegs sind, ausgeübt habe. Allerdings werde sitze ich seit nunmehr 15 Monaten in der mexikanischen Grenzmetropole Ciudad Juárez im Gefängnis und soll in einem Fall angeklagt werden, der überhaupt nichts mit meinem Einsatzgebiet bei „Grupo Beta“ zu tun hat.

<div>Ich habe die Hoffnung auf eine Rückkehr zu meiner Familie nicht verloren und setze auf Ihre solidarische Unterstützung bei diesem Vorhaben.

<div>Bei der Tragödie des Brandes im Abschiebegefängnis von Ciudad Juárez im März 2023 kamen 40 Menschen ums Leben, 27 Männer überlebten zum Teil schwerverletzt, 15 Frauen, wurden im letzten Moment aus der Zelle gelassen und leiden bis heute unter Posttraumatischem Stress. Aber auch ich wurde Opfer dieses Vorfalls.
</div>
<div>Am selben Tag war ich in der Wüste, 55 Kilometer vom Abschiebegefängnis entfernt, und half einer Gruppe verletzter Geflüchteter. Ich wurde jedoch in Folge des Brandes verhaftet und mir wurde vorgeworfen, ich sei für die Schutzvorrichtungen im Abschiebegefängnis verantwortlich und somit auch für die Folgen des Brandes. Das Beweisdokument ist lückenhaft, unleserlich, besitzt kein Datum und auch nicht meine Unterschrift.

<div>Ich betone noch einmal, dass meine Arbeit jenseits des Abschiebegefängnisses stattfand, stets im Gelände und auf der Strasse bei Hilfs- und Rettungsarbeiten und der humanitären Assistenz und rechtlichen Orientierung von Migrant*innen und Geflüchteten. Am 12. Januar 2024 setzte der Richter während einer Anhörungen eine Kaution auf 2 Mio. Pesos (rund 100 000 Euro) fest, um mir zu ermöglichen das Verfahren mit Fussfessel zuhause abzuwarten. Ich appelliere an diejenigen, die an Gerechtigkeit für mich glauben, meine  bedingte Freilassung zu unterstützen, damit ich bei meiner Familie sein kann.
