AYUDA A CESAR A RECUPERAR SU EQUIPO ROBADO

¡Saludos! Mi nombre es César Barrio-Amorós, antropólogo y herpetólogo (especialista en anfibios y reptiles), investigador autónomo y conservacionista. Originario de Barcelona, en 1995 me mudé a Venezuela, donde dediqué varios años a explorar el país descubriendo más de 50 especies nuevas para la ciencia. Cuando el clima político-económico en Venezuela se volvió inestable, me mudé a Costa Rica. Desde 2011, he continuado este trabajo documentando especies únicas y variadas de reptiles y anfibios en Costa Rica mientras contribuyo con publicaciones científicas y artículos sobre su historia natural, comportamiento y taxonomía.

 

Como parte de este trabajo, llevo a personas de todo el mundo a expediciones y tours, guiándolas por lugares recónditos y mostrándoles las especies más espectaculares en su hábitat natural, una oportunidad que inspira a muchos a comprender más profundamente la importancia de la conservación de la naturaleza. Con lo que gano haciendo este maravilloso trabajo, financio proyectos de investigación propios, dos de los cuales son proyectos a largo plazo sobre dos de las especies más amenazadas de Costa Rica: el sapo arlequín y la rarisima plato negro (más información en los enlaces abajo). También ofrezco charlas gratuitas a comunidades y organizaciones locales que me piden que les enseñe sobre la importancia de las serpientes y su relación con los humanos.

 

Una de las herramientas más poderosas para aumentar la conciencia sobre la naturaleza y la conservación son las imágenes. Por eso, desde muy joven, me dediqué a fotografiar a cada ser vivo que se cruzaba en mi camino, capturando su belleza y detalles mientras me sumergía en la naturaleza. Para obtener las mejores imágenes con las que honrar el espíritu de los animales, siempre he trabajado con equipos fotográficos de tecnología avanzada, a pesar de los gastos, logrando así resultados fenomenales.

Me satisface que mis fotografías hayan llegado a muchos círculos en los campos de la biología y la conservación, apareciendo en innumerables artículos científicos y divulgativos, en libros y revistas, e inspirado a muchos jóvenes a dedicarse a la preservación y estudio de la naturaleza.

 

En los últimos años, he adoptado el formato documental, produciendo videos educativos cortos sobre varias especies de animales (enlace del canal de YouTube abajo).

 

Trágicamente, recientemente me robaron todo mi equipo fotográfico y de filmación. ¡Todo! - incluido un Sony RX10III con accesorios (flashes, difusores, baterías, tarjetas, etc.), además de un Go-Pro Hero y Hero 7, un Dron Mavic Air y una c+amara DJI Osmo Pocket. El valor aproximado de todo es de $ 4000 (el hurto no está cubierto en el seguro de viaje, por lo que no he podido recuperar estas pérdidas). Y para empeorar las cosas, debido a la pandemia mundial Covid-19, mi trabajo de ecoturismo se ha reducido tan drásticamente que me es imposible volver a comprar un equipo como el que me robaron.

 

Esto significa que ahora, cada vez que salgo al campo, pierdo toda oportunidad de documentar estos animales espectaculares, y aún más, pierdo la oportunidad de compartir esa belleza inspiradora con las generaciones más jóvenes.

 

Por eso, y con toda la gratitud del mundo, les pido a mis amigos - y amigos de la vida silvestre y la conservación - y a quienes me conocen o aprecian mi trabajo, que me ayuden a recuperar a mi equipo. ¡Cualquier cantidad ayudará!

Greetings! My name is César Barrio-Amorós, a wildlife anthropologist-herpetologist, freelance researcher and conservationist. Originally from Barcelona, in 1995 I moved to Venezuela, where I dedicated several years to discovering and naming the country’s previously unknown-to-science amphibians and reptiles. When the political-economic climate in Venezuela became dangerous I moved to Costa Rica. Since 2011, I have continued this work documenting unique and varied species of reptiles and amphibians in Costa Rica while contributing scientific publications and articles about their natural history, behavior, and taxonomy.

 

As part of this work, I lead people from all over the world on ecotours, guiding them to hidden places and teaching about the most spectacular species in their wild habitat, an opportunity which inspires many to more deeply understand the importance of nature conservation. With what I earn doing this wonderful job, I fund own research projects, two of which are long-term projects on two of the most threatened species of Costa Rica: the Harlequin Toad, and the rare Black-Headed Bushmaster. I also offer free talks to local communities and organizations that ask me to teach about the importance of snakes and their relationship with humans.

 

One of the most powerful tools to increase awareness of nature and conservation is images. For this reason, from a young age, I dedicated myself to photographing every living being that crossed my path, capturing its beauty and detail while immersed in the wild. To obtain the very best images with which to honor the spirit of the animals, I have always worked with advanced technology photographic equipment, despite expense, thereby achieving phenomenal results.

 

I am satisfied that my photographs have reached many circles in the fields of biology and conservation, appearing in innumerable scientific and informative articles, in books and magazines, and inspired many young people to dedicate themselves to the preservation and study of nature.

 

In recent years, I have embraced the documentary format, producing short educational videos on various species of animals (YouTube channel link below).

 

Tragically, all my photographic and filming equipment was stolen recently. Everything! - including a Sony RX10III with accessories (flashes, diffusers, batteries, cards, etc), plus a Go- Pro Hero and Hero 7, Mavic Air Drone, and DJI Osmo Pocket Camera. The approximate value of everything is $4000 (theft is not covered in travel insurance, so I have not been able to recover these losses). And to make matters even worse, due to the Covid-19 world pandemic, my eco-tourism work has been reduced so drastically that it is impossible for me to re-purchase equipment such as was stolen.

 

This means that now, whenever I go into the field I lose all opportunity to document these spectacular animals, and even more, I lose the chance to share that inspiring beauty with younger generations.

 

For this reason, and with all the humble gratitude in the world, I ask my friends — and friends of wildlife and conservation — and those who know me or appreciate my work, to help to get my team back. Any amount will help!
