<div>El pasado domingo 18 de febrero de 2024, la expedición de 12 alpinistas en el Pico de Orizaba, la montaña más alta de México, tomó un rumbo inesperado cuando quedaron atrapados en la cima, enfrentándose a condiciones climáticas extremas, sorprendidos por vientos violentos y una súbita helada.

<div>La tormenta dispersó a los alpinistas, dejando a cuatro de ellos aislados en la cima. Entre ellos estaba Andrea, quien fue rescatada en condiciones graves y con alto riesgo de perder sus extremidades debido a quemaduras de segundo y tercer grado causadas por el hielo. Trágicamente, se encontraron dos alpinistas sin vida y, hasta el día de hoy, 23 de febrero, la búsqueda del cuarto continúa.

<div>Andrea Ivonne Hernández Maciel, alpinista de Jalisco y parte del grupo de los 12 desaparecidos, había emprendido la expedición el fin de semana anterior en el volcán Pico de Orizaba, un trayecto conocido por ellos, ya que lo habían recorrido en tres ocasiones anteriores. Sin embargo, al alcanzar la cima, el clima se tornó adverso de manera abrupta.

<div>"Los vientos se intensificaron de manera extrema y nos golpeó una helada severa. La nieve nos sepultó y el viento nos dispersó", relató.

<div>Tras su rescate del hielo en la cima del Pico de Orizaba, ubicado en el límite con Puebla, Andrea fue trasladada a un hospital.

<div>Las graves quemaduras por congelación, de segundo, tercer y, en algunos casos, hasta cuarto grado, hicieron necesario su ingreso al Centro Médico Occidente del IMSS en la madrugada del 21 de febrero. Sin embargo, debido a la falta del equipo adecuado y especialistas en este hospital del seguro, fue necesario su traslado a una institución privada especializada en quemaduras graves. Andrea está siendo intervenida quirúrgicamente y se prevén varias operaciones, cuyos costos superan los 80,000 dólares estadounidenses, por lo que se está llevando a cabo una recaudación de fondos para financiarlas.
