Ayla's Team - Talking With Technology Camp 2019

Ayla Louer, who turns 10 this month, has been accepted for a special camp experience this summer!
She was born with 22q Deletion Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects one in every 2000-4000 individuals with some variety of symptoms - there are at least 180 different associated conditions with 22q anomalies. In her case, the syndrome has resulted in severe speech and communication challenges. While speech and articulation continue to be major challenges for her, she has become fairly adept with using her Accent 800 speech tablet. She currently uses her device to express basic needs and desires, but her vocabulary and language skills are still extremely limited. We are raising funds for Ayla, her sister Mona (age 7), and trainer Jade Foster to attend Talking with Technology Camp in Empire, Colorado in July, 2019.
The camp is intended for children who use a speech device for communication to have a camp experience in an environment with skilled professionals and peers who also communicate through technology. Their goal is for children to increase their skills and generalize the use of their device with more peers and adults to become more successful communicators.
They invite each child to attend with a team that includes their sibling and one adult "trainer," who regularly works with the child at home or school. The team approach ensures that skills gained at camp can be successfully transferred back to the home environment.
Our team - consisting of Ayla, her sister Mona, and trainer Jade Foster - has been accepted to attend TWT 2019. We have successfully raised funds to cover Ayla's camp fees; we're currently trying to help raise the balance of funds needed to cover the rest of the camp fees for the team, as well as travel and other expenses related to getting the group to camp and back home.
