Funeral Costs and Living Expenses

Hi,
My name is Mario Cacciola and this past November my mother, Veronica, passed away quite suddenly. She had no life insurance and no assets. I had to borrow the money for the funeral from a friend's parents and picked up around $1000/month in bills that she was paying. Because my father passed away while I was in high school the responsibility for the estate and the funeral fell upon me. If I were working this wouldn't be too much of a problem, but I have just finished grad school and I do not start work until October so I have been living purely off student loans. I am looking to fund repayment to my friend's parents for the funeral costs because they gave me the money out of their retirement savings which they are living off of. The funeral cost around $13K. I also intend to use funding for living expenses until I begin work, including finding a new apartment because I need to move across the country for work. I have tried to take out private loans but unfortunately I was declined and have no one to ask to cosign for me. I originally felt a little awkward about coming and asking for help but after seeing a kickstarter campaign raise $30K for a potato salad I figured I should try.
Once I do begin work I plan on using a portion of my first few year's income to match whatever I raise over the funeral expenses and donate the money evenly between Best Buddies and Autism Speaks in my mother's name because she was a severe special education teacher. That way whatever money I do raise will do twice the good.
