Please help AYADO raise $50,000 to bring Attitude, Knowledge and Skills for Girls (ASK4Girls) Clubs to schools in Northeastern Uganda.

Amuria Youth Alliance Development Organization (AYADO) is a youth-led organization based in Uganda that aims to help the most vulnerable youth and women reach their full potential. AYADO focuses on ending and preventing child marriage and teenage pregnancies, food security, environmental conservation, and increasing access to water, sanitation and hygiene.

AYADO will implement ASK4Girls Clubs to reach 1,000 girls in Uganda, in partnership with the Association for Community Empowerment Solutions (ACESWorld), a grassroots organization that works to empower girls. ASK4Girls Clubs are after school clubs which will help girls remain in school and thrive by providing them with life skills training, supplies and education on reproductive health, environmental and menstrual health and hygiene, and environmental green skills.

ADOLESCENT GIRLS and COVID-19

Imagine that when the COVID-19 quarantine began your family had no financial reserves, no social safety net, limited food stores, no access to the internet, schools closed and like many families in Uganda you have a large household. Now imagine you are an adolescent girl. You want to go to school, but you know if the quarantine continues you will likely become a child bride and never return to school. Even before the pandemic there were four million girls forced into early marriage in Uganda and now the numbers are expected to rise due to school closures, food insecurity, and economic uncertainty triggered by COVID-19.

 There is HOPE

Girls have returned to school after the period of school closures. With your support AYADO will bring ASK4Girls Clubs to schools to help girls remain in school. Together we can give these girls the knowledge and skills they need to avoid child marriage, continue their education and fulfill their potential.

 Here’s HOW

ASK4Girls Clubs meet monthly in schools and teach girls  to support one another, communicate their needs and challenges, and understand and care for their bodies and the consequences of their choices.  Girls will learn critical life skills, such as financial literacy, problem solving, public speaking, and how to advocate for themselves against issues like gender based violence. They will also learn about taking climate action in their communities as well as learn a green income-generating craft. As part of the activities, girls will have an opportunity to meet role models who have succeeded under similar circumstances. Below are additional topics and themes covered in the ASK4Girls Club model.

Transformative Life and Green Skills

 - Strengthen analytical skills, critical/abstract thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving
 - Learn communication and public speaking skills
 - Financial literacy

Reproductive Health Skills

 - Make and learn to use menstrual bracelets and reusable sanitary pads
 - How to navigate gender norms
 - Understand sexual and reproductive health

Thriving COMMUNITIES

Adolescent girls need the support of their families, schools, and communities. AYADO’s ASK4Girls Clubs will engage communities, families, and schools to help girls thrive. Our ASK4Girls Club project not only supports girls, but provides curriculum, educational materials, and training for teachers for the sustainability of the project. ASK4Girls Club activities also include community events to encourage community members to fully support adolescent girls agency.

Additionally, girls who participate in ASK4Girls clubs often have a multiplier effect in their communities. As they learn how to make menstrual pads, advocate for sustainable practices in their communities, and challenge harmful gender norms, they also share these lessons with their friends, families and girls in their communities.

Your support would mean the world to us. Please consider donating and share widely with your networks!
