Axwell’s Medical Bills
I’ve been very lucky to be Axwell’s personal assistant (owner) for 12 years after adopting him as a shelter puppy. He’s still lively and sassy but like all old dogs, medical issues have popped up. Some are breed-specific and others are due to his age.
On Friday he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and a spinal injury. He'll be on antibiotics for 3 weeks and has anti-inflammatory meds to help with pain, with extended rest for 8 weeks. No more Pomeranian parkour, furniture jumping, or sleeping in the bed with me. :(
His initial blood work is normal and urinalysis results will be available on Monday. We're hoping for a diagnosis of senior diabetes and a UTI. I’m dreading normal results which means Axwell likely has Cushing’s disease, which has similar onset symptoms to diabetes.
Cushing’s is a serious hormone condition where too much cortisone is being produced which impacts organs and causes infections. There is no cure, only management of symptoms, with a lifespan of about two years. He could live longer and healthier with a diabetes diagnosis.
Despite these health problems, Axwell is doing great for a senior dog. The vet said his heart is very healthy and overall he’s in great shape. He’ll need strict dietary changes regardless of diagnosis to stay healthy and sassy and reduce further complications. Axwell means the world to me, and any donation is so very appreciated to help us pay for his treatment and manage symptoms.
Current Goal
- $307 to cover his initial testing and medication bill.
- $15 to cover GFM transaction fees.
Future Bills
If the results Monday are inconclusive, the first step is advanced blood work costing $242. After 3 weeks of antibiotic treatment, he’ll need to undergo sedation and the removal of his few remaining teeth to prevent bacterial infections. I’ll update that cost once we receive an estimate.
It's been a stressful month of struggling to manage his symptoms, especially in the middle of the night, but I love my little guy to the moon and back. Having a solid diagnosis will prepare me for what Axwell's future will look like. I don't want him to suffer, but I want to keep him healthy and around as long as possible.
This fundraiser will be updated as we know more and to keep everyone posted on how Axwell's doing. Please do share this fundraiser and I kindly ask that you include an Axwell memory, which would also greatly help us get through this challenging time. <3
