Axl the Miniature Dachshund - Paralyzed

Hi everybody, I'm shattered that it has came to this, but I'm starting this fundraiser for my dog Axl, who is now paralyzed. He is not able to walk with his rear legs, hold his urine and can barely wag his tail. He's a miniature long hair dachshund and just turned 5 in August. He's had a few health issues in the past, but nothing compares to what has happened this week. On Sunday, November 1st, my pup seemed to not really be himself, it seemed like he just had a tummy ache or something of the sort. He was crying here and there so I kept my eye on him through the day. On Monday I took him and my other dog Casey on a walk, it went okay, but he would cry when my other dog would walk up to him. Which is unusual because he would start jumping around with her to play. By Tuesday, he did not want to go for a walk at all, he didn't want to go down the stairs outside either. I carried him to the ground and he still didn't want to walk. I carried him to the path down the street so my other dog could go, but he wasn't having it at all. We went back home and I noticed his appetite as he began trying to eat his dinner, however his but kept swaying and he fell over a few times. I was so confused as to what was going on, but it hurt my heart that I had to go to work. My parents rushed him to our local 24/7 vet emergency room, and I got a phone call that he slipped a disc in his back. My heart dropped. His rear legs and back were going to become paralyzed as his spinal cord was pinched. They wanted to bring him an hour away to Chicago for emergency surgery, but it would be almost $8,000 up front with no payment options and an almost 90% of recovery to walk again. Unfortunately, we don't have that type of cash to spend on the spot, so they had us go home with Gabapentin and anothrr medication, with the suggestion to start physical therapy.I came home from work the next morning at 6am, at this point he couldn't move his rear legs or wag his tail at all.. as when I left the night before, he could at least stand and take some steps. In just 13 hours he declined so fast. Needing a second opinion, we were able to squeeze an on call appointment at our own vet, with basically the same conclusion, that a disc ruptured. They suggested to go to another surgeon, I called and they said said their price would be about $5,000 with no payment plans, but they do take Care Credit. I applied for that to see if I could cover the whole thing, but I am only to get $800. Unable to get the surgery again, my doctor suggested the only thing he could, which is starting him on a steroid treatment giving him a possible chance of walking again. This is a hit or miss type of treatment in the veterinary community, but if it's the next best option, it's what we've had to do. The longer you wait on a spinal cord injury, the more damage it will do in the long run. He's been on this treatment at the hospital for a few days, and we will have to get him a customized wheelchair which is also not inexpensive at all. There are several causes for these injuries and they are the most common in Dachshunds due to their long backs.My poor boy also has been going through a severe case of dry eye. Nothing we've tried in over the last year has been fully working to recover his damage. There is a specialist we have been seeing near Chicago that has suggested a special surgery involving the transfer of one of his saliva glands to his eye which will act as a constant tear duct. That procedure is $4,800, and I have been doing all i can to save for that. Otherwise, we will have to go with the route to remove it. It would mean the world if anyone took the time of day to help my dog. I appreciate you all so much for coming to this page. Proceeds will go directly to his back surgery, then if I can, his eye surgery. As well as a wheelchair and care supplies like tons of dog training pads, he's been going through at least 5 a day.
