Emma’s Journey ....Lets beat this together

Donation protected
On the 30th October 2018 Emma was diagnosed with Grade 3 invasive ductal breast cancer. Most of you know how close we all are, we aren’t just friends, we are family and love each other dearly. This has been a very devastating several weeks for all that are close to her..... BUT.... she is handling her news in the most honourable way and we are very proud of her for that.

Following lots of meetings and tests the doctors discovered Emma also has primary bowel cancer stage 4 which has spread meaning that she has secondary cancer in her liver.

Currently her health remains in good order and treatment will hopefully start before Christmas.

If you know Emma you will know that she is an extremely friendly and well liked person by many. You will also know that she is a very independent, determined and strong human being - hence why she is prepared to fight this as hard as she can and for as long as she can!! You will know that most of her time and energy in recent years has been focussed on helping others in lots of ways, teaching, community work and raising awareness for a number of charities. Now it’s time to also focus on herself.

Emma is always the first to help others and goes out of her way to make sure they’re ok.

Emma has already been overwhelmed by so many lovely messages and amazing generosity shown by so many people with many offers of support and help. However, as Emma has explained to us, it is just so hard to suggest what we can do to help her at the moment.

As mentioned previously Emma is an extremely independent person and her husband Russell has been doing so well to look after her at this difficult time with so much uncertainty about the future. She knows that in addition to his continued love and support, external help is what she will need long term in order to secure a future for her family.

Emma wants to live her life as normal as possible and carry on being a wife, a mummy to Indiana and stepmummy to Russell’s daughter Holly. Emma is an amazing mum and everything she does is for her family. She has embraced being a mother even though we still have conversations where she says ‘still can’t believe I’m a mum’ haha. Emma doesn’t want people to be sad for her and asks that everyone is positive and supportive. With that in mind she feels the huge need to raise awareness for breast and bowel cancer and asks that people will do this as much as they can through social media.

Emma is a very open minded person and as well as chemo she is using complimentary medicine, however, many complimentary therapies are not available on the NHS and therefore can be quite costly. She thought that a good way for people to feel as if they can help, would be to contribute to this medicine and therefore you are all playing a major part in supporting her in a way she needs and kicking cancers butt!

Emma will be losing her hair, however she will be attempting to use the cold cap to avoid this as much as possible. Therefore, she would really love to buy herself a nice wig. Recommendations or advice of where to source one would be much appreciated too.

Emma’s consultant and oncologist are based in London hospitals, therefore there are additional costs she is incurring that people might want to offer to contribute to such as - travel expenses to London as well as all the parking costs.

Emma has been very open in her discussions about her prognosis but realises that everyone is completely different and that what is working well for one person might not be the case for her. Therefore she is happy to discuss people’s own stories and diagnosis with anyone.

Emma is extremely grateful for the positive messages and prayers that she has received already and is adamant that this needs to continue to keep her journey a positive one.

Lots of love
