IDEAs Against Violence
Back to School Safely

All across the country, 50 million kids go to school every day, arriving on yellow busses, by car, or walking from home. For 90,000 of these children each year, their day doesn’t end on the bus, in the car with their parents, or walking home with their friends but, instead, in a trip to the emergency room due to violence suffered in school.

From horrifying incidents such as the events in Newtown, CT at Sandy Hook Elementary to day-to-day incidents of violence perpetrated against people in school communities, school violence is a pressing problem that we all face together. IDEAs Against Violence is a non-profit organization with a mission to collaborate with schools and develop violence prevention and response strategies to ensure that our nation’s children and educators are safe from violence at school.

With the proper education, action, and community empowerment on the subjects of school safety, violence prevention, and holistic response to acts of violence, a future can be created where parents are confident that their children will be safe every day at school and teachers will feel secure in the workplace.

IDEAs Against Violence bases its methods on standard recommendations from organizations including the Secret Service and FBI. We believe in a comprehensive, preventive approach to violence in schools, rather than reacting to an incident after it has already occurred. We provide a variety of programming and services to schools at no charge to them. Not only do we offer teachers and administrators the seminars and training necessary to make them aware, active, and effective parts of stopping school violence, but we also collaborate with schools to establish intelligent and effective violence response plans and drills.

One of our main advantages over other providers is our accessibility to schools. Our civilian approach is better aligned with the school culture and environment compared to military or law enforcement inspired solutions. Instead of finding and defeating enemies or suspects, IDEAs Against Violence focuses on community building and helping people use the tools necessary to build a safe school environment. We focus on common sense measures, which can be easily understood and integrated into school life, that enhance, rather than interfere with, a positive learning environment.

Since school districts have too many competing budget factors as is and providing safety for schools is a moral imperative, all IDEAs Against Violence services and programs are absolutely free. Almost no one offers free solutions designed for schools - most of the teaching and training effort in this field is centered on law enforcement and is for-profit. Schools and teachers need charitable solutions for violence prevention and response, and as a charity, we can ensure that schools can prioritize safety, even in this era of tight budgets.

This summer, we are laying the groundwork for children to go back to school safely. This is our first year of operation, and we need funding to get off the ground and begin working to protect our schools. The funding received through your generous support will go to running our seminars and training sessions, creating and disseminating reference materials for educators, and connecting our services to schools in need. Your contributions will aid us in making our dream of a safer tomorrow for our children into a reality.

Help out. Be part of the solution to school violence. Spread the word to your friends. Donate and encourage others to contribute because we need funding from people who care about safe schools.
