Rich City Skate ~ Awaken The Dream

TO THOSE WHO WOULD LISTEN…

The Tree of Knowledge Foundation is a Non-Profit organization awaiting 501C(3) status that was formed to help children who have no place to go.  Children everywhere are suffering from the devastating loss of safe places to be.  Many are held hostage in their homes and schools, afraid to go outside.  For some, a safe place could mean the difference between life or death. Their stories are real.  The statistics are startling. Since the closing of Rich City, there has been five killings involving local young people. Prior to closing, that number was zero.  Unfortunately this narrative is happening throughout the United States.  With mass shootings and drive by’s on the rise, this is nothing less than a nationwide assault on the safety of our children.

Since Rich City closed its doors, the effects have devastated an already vulnerable community.  Imagine seeing so many families suffering and desperately trying to keep their children safe from harm.  You can help, right now by going online and giving what you can to help children and families who have no place to go.  You can give the life saving support they so desperately need.  With your gift of just $19.00 per month or a generous donation, it would mean so much and could make all the difference.  Just imagine, so many children and families literally fighting to stay alive with no protection, but you could help them right now with your gift. There are children at risk of dying every day if we don’t give them a safe place to be.

Our Mission is to re-open Rich City Skate and in collaboration with The Non-Profit organization, Tree of Knowledge Foundation, the Rich City Initiative was born.  It reads:

Rich City - More Than A Skating Rink - It’s A Life Saver.

We believe safety is a right, not a privilege, and we should provide the children with safe spaces.

Our Status:  We have a short period of time to save the current 25,000 sq. ft. building.  We would like to transfer the building over to the not for profit but legal advice and help does not come cheap.  We hope to find a pro bono attorney that could lead the way because we would like to have the doors open by 2020.  With a GoFundMe link, gofundme.com/awaken-the-dream, already in place, perhaps there are some angels out there who care, and with the help of The United Skates Documentary along with HBO as the catalyst for a much needed change, we hope others will feel the same.

Sincerely,

The Alexander Family

We are asking you to Please Help The Children.

If you care about The Children and you want them to have a safe place to go that will keep them out of harm's way, please help.  If you are a parent, please help.  If you are a foundation, a donor or a do-gooder, please help.  If you are a philanthropist, a politician, a church organization or you are someone that cares, please help.  If you are a skater and skating has been a big influence in your life or the life of someone you know, please help and contribute to the rebirth of a Community Institution, Rich City Skate.

Rich City was a place where children and adults could find refuge from the mean streets. It was neutral territory that would allow all who entered to remove their armor, to laugh and smile, to shake hands and relax.  It was a safe place where children could once again be children. Rich City welcomed children and adults and literally saved lives, one child and one person at a time, and with the help of good people like you, we can Revive-The-Dream.

The "UNITED SKATES" DOCUMENTARY, a film by Dyana Winkler & Tina Brown along with Executive Producer, John Legend and the outpouring of citizens and skaters has generated a renewed energy and motivation, globally.  The Rich City story is featured in this award-winning documentary and describes the importance of preserving the legacy and providing a protected, safe space for vulnerable communities.  If you believe that Rich City should be reopened, we are asking YOU and good people EVERYWHERE to help re-open the doors. Any contribution you could give would be greatly appreciated, and a donation of $100.00 or more will reserve your name on the walls of Rich City, but any contribution would not be too small.

Let’s prove we are able to come together to preserve a piece of an American culture and tradition that is in jeopardy of disappearing into extinction, and to provide a safe space for children to be, but the re-opening of Rich City will depend on the generosity of people like you.
