No parent should ever have to bear the suffering of having to bury their child, let alone have to assume the stress of the financial burden that accompanies the agony. So much has already been taken away from Nathans children, parents, brothers, family, friends and everyone else he came into contact with.
Before Nathan turned 30 he was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, and he lost his fight at the age of 40. But, not before he was able to see two more of his three children born and grow up as young happy children who loved their daddy. Statistics meant nothing to this man, he was determined that he would beat this and see his children grow into adults, and he would have been the greatest grandpa any grandkid would have.
The strength he displayed was absolutely unfathomable, passion for life and his children amazing. Even at the very end when he was in unbearable pain, he made sure he gave each of his children special memories. Being it accompanying his oldest on a fieldtrip to the city, watching his middle child play baseball and wining a game ball even though he could barely walk across the field, taking his youngest to one last daddy daughter dance and having fun dressing up.
I am so proud to be a brother to this man, and I only hope I can be half the man he was. He endured so many surgeries and medications and hoped each one was going to be the magical bullet, but was patient enough to understand that it may not be. He was a man who loved to be on the go. Just three weeks before his passing he was on the roof trying to fix a leak. That was Nathan, always wanting to help and do things for himself. And even when the doctors said he was to be confined to a bed, he got himself some brand new wheels and went cruising down the hospice hallways, knocking over trays so excited to be able to move himself around in a wheelchair. This spirit and determination allowed him to wheel himself up to the dinner table just days before his passing to have one last dinner with his kids and family, just like they always would. Thank you Dan the best man in multiple ways, for making that happen for his best bud.
So much has been taken away help his family create memories for his children to celebrate their daddy now and in the future, relieve some financial responsibilities, and to set up a donation for cancer research.
