Hi Everyone and thank you for taking the time to visit my Mom's Fundraiser site! I have created this in an effort to raise some donations from friends, family, and loved ones to support her in paying for medical bills and lost wages; as she has been unable to work since April 2014, when she received and began treatment for her Cancer diagnosis.
Many, if not all, of you know how truly remarkable my mother, Marlene Hixon is. She is the most loving and giving person I know; she has taught me patience and kindness. She has taught me how to love unconditionally, how to be grateful for what I have versus what I don't have. My mom is also the strongest person I know. She has endured many hardships throughout her years; and through every struggle and obstacle, she has always perservered because of her strong will and dedication to not only herself, but to those in her life around her. So why are we here?
My mom opened her own house cleaning business in 1997 and since then has fully supported herself financially through this business. In April 2014, one of her client's dog's bit her on the arm. She went to the ER and received stitches and anti-biotics. The anti-biotics aggravated her hiatal hernia to the point she could not hold down foods and liquids. She went back to the ER; they performed a CT on her Abdomen and BAM! They detected a tumor in her rectum. To say the least, we were all scared to hear the dreaded "C" word come from the doctor's mouth. The prognosis given is extremely hopeful; but not before enduring the battle. Mom's initial treatment plan consisted of Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment simultaneously, for 6 weeks, Monday thru Friday. This, as you can imagine, has put quite the toll on her body, not to mention emotionally and mentally exhausting and draining. Mom just finished her intense course of treatment and is slowly on the road to her body healing from all the horrible toxins, which hopefully, killed the cancer.
She will return to the Surgeon in August. At that time, we will find out if the treatment 100% killed the tumor, i.e. needing no surgical intervention. Versus, needing surgery to remove whatever is left over from the treatment. We are praying and remaining hopeful that the worst is behind her, and that no surgery will be needed, but we must remain open and prepared for the alternate result.
I created this Fundraiser site for my Mother, who praised and provided for me as a single mother and molded me into the woman I am today. She inspires and gives with ALL of her heart. She has touched infinite lives throughout her very own family, friends, the program, her cleaning business, and just every day life. She has been unable to work since April, and remains unable to work while recouperating from treatment and weakened immune system. As we all know, no work = no money. Any amount of donation will go towards supporting my mom in paying for her medical bills and her every day living expenses and bills. She is always the one giving to those around her; I think this website is an amazing way to share her story, and for those who love Marlene to show and provide their support. She has already experienced the love and support from all of those in her life and that have been in touch with her through this painful process. She could not be more grateful, and neither could I. I love hearing her phone ring or text off the hook, with people checking on her and asking if they can bring her anything. She has so many amazing people in her life; which can only attribute to how amazing she is.
