Avery's AP Research Project
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Avery Thiel, and I am a senior AP Capstone Research student at Columbia High School in Nampa, Idaho. AP Capstone is a course that seeks to encourage students to demonstrate critical thinking and academic research skills through a research project of their own.
For my research, I have chosen to collaborate with local school-based resource pantries at Columbia High School, Nampa High School, and Skyview High School to improve access to quality hygiene products for lower-income students. With a high rate of lower-income students in the district, these outreach programs are crucial to their success in school. Because these pantries are funded by donation, students often lack access to quality, name brand products like deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, feminine hygiene products, and dental care. My research seeks to understand how providing products of quality may impact a student's self-esteem in social settings.
This project will take place in two phases: first, a survey to determine what products are wanted and needed most by students and their families will be given and second, students will have full access to quality versions of these products. The resource pantries will remain donation funded with your help! Your donation will be used to purchase quality hygiene products for each resource pantry.
