Avery, Terra, & Furbabies House Fire Recovery

Donation protected

Early Sunday morning, June 28, 2020, my daughter, Terra and son in law, Avery lost their home to a fire. Although very emotional, they, along with their 5 furbabies, Rico, Ollie, Dexter, Odie, and Gigi are safe.

A little over a year ago, this was their first home purchase. They were so excited and with hard work they had it decorated and furnished exactly the way they wanted. They were so proud of their home. My daughter is a crafter and made so many of their decorations. She had purchased all of her supplies to start her cricut business to supplement her full time employment at Rapid City Medical Center.  Avery, an Ellsworth Airforce Base Veteran, is employed at the Warf Mine in Lead, SD.  They worked very hard and made their first house into a home.
As the house went up in flames, we watched helpless. Rico and GiGi came running out but the other 3 were still inside. After what seemed like an eternity, Odie and Dexter were carried out by firefighters.  Ollie was still missing. Although the firefighters searched all over inside for her once the flames were contained, she was not found before we left the site. A little before dawn, Avery went back to the house to see if he could find here around the neighborhood. He found Ollie peeking out the front door. She was soaking wet and cold,  but safe. We think she may have been hiding in the basement.
They were able to retrieve important documents from a fireproof box, their phones and car keys. Everything upstairs was burnt and everything in the basement was damaged by smoke or water. They will be allowed back in tomorrow to see if anything was salvageable.
As parents, those late nights calls from your child crying for help causes your heart to stop. We are so grateful that they are safe and here with us. All the material things are replaceable.
In response to the overwhelming request to help, we have created this account. We are overcome with appreciation for the kindness and generosity from family, friends, and community members. Thank you to all the responders who helped keep them safe. We will forever be grateful for each of you!
