Ava Smith - Medical and Travel Expenses

Ava is a goofy, fun loving girly girl. Quick to make a silly face and always ready for a fun time. She likes adventures and crazy videos she finds on YouTube. She loves her hair done and a dress as much as her Nike shorts and over-sized tee. This is Ava. Remember this, because it is important. This is what defines her. Not her diagnosis.

Ava had a large soft tissue mass removed from her leg and the pathology as comeback as Spindle Cell Sarcoma. It is rare and it is considered an unspecified aggressive cancer. There is no staging for this as it seemed to be localized, meaning the scans do not show spread. 

Her Chemotherapy will be every 3 weeks, she will be in patient for 3 days in Birmingham and then come home to Mobile. Radiation will start in the middle and be inpatient 5 days. Ava will have Doctors her in Mobile that will check her white cell count and monitor her health.

We will have to wait to start treatment until her leg heals more because she has too much breakdown of her skin right now. We began a wet to dry dressing change to make sure this heals before chemo since chemo will also kill good cells in her body.
