HOW THIS HAPPENED:
Last November I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I saw a photo of a lady I knew holding a tiny boy. He was sleeping soundly, she was smiling widely. The utter look of contentment on both of their faces made my heart seize up.
Amanda was on a Christian mission trip in Zambia working with orphans and mentioned that she was ready to go back – even though she was still there! My immediate response: "Take me with you next time!" I'm not even sure where it came from, but the photo rocked me. I had never wanted to go on a mission trip, but suddenly had the overwhelming feeling that this was something I needed to do.
WHY I NEED YOU:
With a $500 deposit, I applied to travel to Zambia and South Africa. I had been living on the run since August of 2013, so it seemed like a no-brainer to pay for this trip myself since I had been saving every penny I could. I barely mentioned the trip to anyone, positive I could do it myself, until God reminded me that it wasn't up to me to do this alone. I had to get the spiritual, emotional, and financial support of my incredible community.
In October, I leave my dogs and work behind. I will travel to Africa with a group of women and work for 20 days with Horizon International. Our project is to help HIV/AIDS orphans stay with extended familes and keep them out of orphanages. This will give them a much better chance at life.

I am going to Africa to make a difference, but I'm positive that it will make me a different person. This will not be an easy journey, but no journey worth walking is ever easy.
