Autism Behavioural Services, located in Fergus and Orangeville Ontario provides service and support to autistic children and youth and their families.
Our Fergus centre is located in the former St Joseph's Church and parish. Our "church" is a therapeutic environment where the children we support learn and play. It also houses therapy materials and resources.
Since April 2021, our Fergus location has been broken into twice, and vandalized on two occasions. The most significant break in and acts of vandalism totaled over $70,000 worth of damage to the church building and it's contents. Hurtful words and symbols were painted on our walls and floor, and materials and resources were broken and thrown about. Although insurance has covered the damage to the building, some of the contents may not be covered. Additionally, we need to install an outdoor security system, as it appears this is not an isolated event.
In addition, due to COVID-19 we have had to cancel our annual fundraiser two years in a row. 2021 should have been our 10th annual Pitch in for Autism Tournament, a fun filled weekend that typically raises over $10,000 which goes towards:
• Therapeutic resources and supplies
• Centre and technology upgrades
• Subsidized rates to access therapy, camp and respite for the families we support.
We have had a huge outreach from the community asking us how they can support us and help give back and so we have started this Go Fund Me as an option to for those looking to contribute.
We are forever grateful for our community and the support they show us everyday and we know that the actions of a few, in no way represent the amazing community we operate in.
