Author & Publishing Stability Funding

FROM THE HEART

Hi, my name is Cliff Harrison. I am an author. I write fiction and nonfiction. I write novels and full-length books, short stories, and essay collections. I have been writing since I was a small child, but back in those days, I didn't dare show my work to anyone, except for my trusting mom.44302232_157719398337836_r.jpeg

You see, back in those days, when I was a child, I didn't have access to the technology I needed to overcome my "disabilities".  I don't believe in disabilities, (that's why I put quotation marks around them), I believe in perseverance. But we'll talk about that later.

I have always had a heart and mind for ideas. Ideas to make the world a better place in which to live.  I write for humanity. I write mostly for humanitarianism and human rights concerns.

I have empathy for my fellow human beings, even if I have never met them or seen a picture of them. Even if they live on the other side of the seas.

We are all human beings and deserve our inalienable human rights. Many people in the world do not have the simple, basic rights we all enjoy here in the United States. I want to be one of the voices that helps change that.

From the Heart, there are solutions to the many problems we experience in this world. I can help solve some of those political, social, economic and cultural problems we have in our world today. Some of them are the same problems we have had for ages.

Nearly all of my writing and my aspirations lean toward those goals of solving these unsolved problems. The social problems especially.

For most of my life, I have suffered from chronic ear problems, including hearing loss and damage that interfered with my spelling and speech. The one thing I wanted to be--a writer--was an impossible dream as a result.

Although multiple major surgeries helped me survive and prevent the deterioration in the middle ear and the mastoid bones from spreading to the brain, it failed to correct my spelling and speech problems. I heard words wrongs, therefore I spelled them wrong.

My mother's old manual Smith-Corona typewriter was the tool of my creative craft. That, and her old Kodak Brownie Hawkeye flash camera.

My imagination, observation, and experiences were my source of ideas that flowed.

Today, that typewriter and camera are antique. Modern technology has made them obsolete. That same technology that continues to improve has helped me overcome the most disadvantages of childhood.

Word Processors. Computers. Internet Access. Search engines for research. Spell check. Grammar check. Digital cameras. Instant development. Instant communication. Electronic devices are unlimited.

The world is connected and everything in it.

No longer is that impossible dream of a child impossible. No longer are the ideas unreachable.

Writing software; editing, revising and more for words, photos, audio, music enables me to do now what I could not do then.  And faster. Much faster.

With all of that mountain of improvements, it still was not complete until instant self-publishing became a reality.

First, it was the blogging platform and websites.

Then ebooks and their distributors like Amazon-Kindle, Smashwords and others.

Print on Demand came along and now many operations are merged so a writer, author or self-publisher can publish an ebook at the same time with an identical copy of a print book. Reaching the world is as near as the computer.

I have computers and external hard drives full and reams of stories from decades of work stored and just itching to get published.

Much of the work is creative fiction, stories.

Much of it is ideas and solutions for solving some of the world's most vital and pressing problems.

For the most part, a self-publisher-author can do most of the work himself, but to be truly successful he sometimes needs to hire professionals, especially for editing, covers, and marketing.

I still have the same drawbacks from my ears and hearing as I had as a child, but the computer technology has concealed that for the most part.

Other medical problems have taken a front seat.

I have what is called Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  Along with it are associated inflictions that can make life less adventurous.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), an infliction the world needs to understand better. I hope I can contribute to being instrumental in bringing new ways to understanding this horrible neurological condition as well as CFS.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), a dysfunctioning condition that can leave the inflicted unable to perform even the most basic of daily functions for days, weeks or months.

There are numerous other neurological conditions and other medical concerns that get in the way and hamper my writing. I'd like to write about all of them, tell my story, find solutions to problems.

That's where I need your help.  I am inundated with medical, financial and legal problems that stand in the way of my fully focusing on my writing and other creative projects. They get in the way of my humanitarian projects as well.

In fact, my humanitarian projects are on hold until I can recover from these other setbacks than overwhelm me while I try to find a way to push harder and faster on my writing and publishing output.  Doing it alone does not always work in my best interest, but sometimes I must.

I have a lot of work I hate to see wasted from not being finished and presented to the world. I am confident, the world can indeed benefit from my work, otherwise, I wouldn't trouble myself with this, let alone you.

Being on a meager fixed income, living in a slumlord, crime-infested property while trying to pinch pennies to stay safe and sound, and defend myself while at the same time trying to make my writing work can be a trying task.  A vulnerable senior citizen gains no respect in this neighborhood, but moving is not the immediate answer, either.

It took me a long time to decide to open this account. A long time. Too many things got in the way, especially my freedom and independence and that which I refuse to surrender.

But I can make this pledge publically, dollar for dollar, dime for dime, for every cent I take in for helping me stabilize my writing and publishing and get my work out, hold me in the creative environment or mindset,  I will match it and pay it forward.

Nothing disturbs and destroys creative writing more than violence, disturbances, interruptions, rudeness, and disrespect for vulnerable people. Nothing destroys ideas faster than interruptions. Even the best-laid plans evaporate until they are recorded and written down.

Equipment upgrades and out-sourcing for some professional service is evident.

At the moment, I can't help the people I need to help, want to help until I can return to a stable environment for my writing and publishing.

Help me, help you, help them.

Even $5 from a lot of people can make a magnificent turnaround in less desirable conditions. Give what your heart says you can, and I will pay it forward as I pledged once I recover from this unstable situation in my writing and publishing life.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I thank you for your time and effort and for reading all of this.  I hope I can provide you with pleasant reading material soon, from the writing in my content library.

Thank you,

Clifford G. Harrison
