Austyn was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia AML-M7 August 17, 2015. She was treated at Texas Childrens for 9 months, and after the end of the 6th round of chemo, Austyn had still failed to reach remission. In May her family found out that her leukemia had actually gotten worse. May 15th she was flown to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and testing began. After two weeks of testing, her parents were told Austyn was eligible for the HAP-NK1 transplant research study, and her mom was going to able to be her donor. Her family celebrated her "new birthday" (first day of Mommy's stem cell transfusion) June 9th, 2016. Austyn has had a rough couple of weeks but is getting stronger everyday! She is DAY +13 post transplant today,and we received the exciting results that Austyn's Chimerism in her blood shows 99.83% Of Mommy's cells! St. Jude is the only hospital that offers this study, and Austyn was the 30th person ever to have this type of transplant. No one should ever be put through the trials this sweet family has.
