A few weeks ago I was blindsided with the news that my best friend has been diagnosed with stage 4 Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (cancer) in his prostate, heart, and lungs. While we've waited for secondary infections to clear and treatment protocols to be decided, Austin continues to struggle with pain and after receiving his first round of chemotherapy, we’ve learned that his heart is just not on board with all that’s being thrown at it. At present, Austin is in ICU at Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis and his medical team is working around the clock to keep him stable. What I love about Austin is that he’s not complained about what many would think is a horrible outcome from such a rotten turn of luck. Austin holds firm to the fact that God will use his struggle and his story for HIS glory. Austin is a strong, 24 year old, and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He’s a guy with his whole life ahead of him even though that life looks a bit different now than it did when he was planning his future. While Austin’s family continues to try to work with the Veterans Affairs Hospital (aka VA), at this time the VA is declining to cover Austin’s medical costs, including Chemotherapy! As Austin’s medical condition has declined from what we all thought was a simple urinary tract infection into full-blown stage 4 cancer of the rarest variety, it’s left him bedridden and unable to carry out even basic life functions on his own. While we’re praying for a cure, even when Austin beats cancer, he will likely be confined to having a catheter and colostomy bag for the rest of his life and his medical bills will be insurmountable. In the midst of this awful turn of events, I’d like to ask you to help me do some good for both Austin and his family. Would you please stand with us and hold firm to the promise of Matthew 18:20 (NIV) "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Having so many of you link arms with us in prayer means the world to us, And if you feel led, would you please donate to help Austin buy medicine and medical supplies and defray the costs of medical care that he will need to depend on for the rest of his life? Thank you in advance for your prayers! #CancerSucks #AKStrong
