Austentation: A Senior Project

Donation protected
Austentation is a Senior Project written by Virginia Edinger, directed by Lauren DeLeon, with Brian Bowyer as an actor and fight director. This production, a take on traditional Comedy of Manners with a generous helping of Jane Austen and a dash of modern sensibility, combines the best of all worlds. Though, don't be complacent, this is not your average comedy of manners. Filled with romance, mistaken identity, and general hijinks, this production explores a myriad of historic as well as timely subject matter ranging from societal expectation to class and gender politics. Through it all, Austentation welcomes the audience to a world rarely seen on Purchase College stages.

However there is a catch. Aside from receiving a space and some technical elements, we receive little to no funding from SUNY Purchase to produce this particular piece of historical comedy.

That's where you come in! Want to know more before you donate??

What: A completely student-produced production of an original historical comedy, Austentation. Austentation follows various characters inhabiting Jane Austen's England as they endeavor to find (or avoid) love. It is a story of heartbreak, triumph, mistaken identity, love, inheritance, sexuality, and so much more.
When: April 19th-21st 2018.
Where: The Humanities Theatre in the Durst Humanities Building.
Why: SUNY Purchase students with a passion for comedy, history, original works, and social issues need an outlet. If we want this show to be of quality and worthwhile, it’s up to us to make it happen.
Who: Approximately 26 SUNY Purchase students across majors and fields, in all areas from cast to production.

To make this production the best it possibly can be, we are hoping to raise around $2000 for costumes, set, props, technical aspects, and printing with the rest of the proceeds going to Mission Flint.

About Mission Flint:
Mission Flint is a grassroots activist organization based out of New York that works to deliver clean water to citizens of Flint, Michigan alongside holding community events and clinical programs. Our director, Lauren DeLeon, has been working with them for the past year and is connecting her work with the organization to her directing. She believes that theatre and social justice can work hand in hand and is using her senior project to do just that the same way she has with My Sister's Place, Planned Parenthood, and the Dakota Access Pipeline Protest. Each pallet of water costs $150 and contains 40 cases of water with 48 half liter bottles each. All excess funds raised by Austentation will be going to buying water that will be hand delivered to Flint through the Mission Flint program.
