Aurora Alma Memorial Fund

Dearest Family, Friends, and Community,

It is with great sadness that the family of Aurora Alma Basbas announce her sudden death on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. This is a great loss for all that knew her. Aurora was a mother, a sister, a daughter, and good friend.  Her humor, distinct timeless style, and generous spirit will be remembered and cherished.  She gave her time, resources and even opened her home to many of her family members and friends.

Just a little over a month ago, she was planning a trip to celebrate her 64th birthday, but fell ill with an intense migraine that they would later determine was an aneurism.  Complications and unsuccessful procedures at the hospital would lead to stroke and eventual transition.

We are raising funds for Aurora Alma's memorial, to offset medical costs already accrued due to an intense month-long stay in the hospital, and to offer Angela Angel the resources, love, and support to help her through this difficult time.  She will need support to keep her family's home and to have time to rest and grieve.

Aurora Alma Canto Basbas Dunn, lovingly known as Alma to her family & Auie to her friends, passed away on August 15, 2018 at the age of 64.  Beloved single mother of Angela and Andre, she brought her creative gifts, humor, and zest for the natural world to her children and all she encountered.  The fifth out of six children born to Remedios Canto Basbas and Miguel Rivera Basbas, she is survived by her mother Remedios and siblings Manolito, Rosalia, Jerome, Sally and Ernest. She emigrated from Baguio City, Philippines to the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco California in 1979 and then eventually settled and made her true home in Vallejo.

Aurora graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Saint Louis University in 1976 .  Although she began as a Social Worker, her career soon shifted into accounting with major retailers such as Woolworth and Walmart.  She ultimately found her niche as a Décor Specialist for Home Depot and spent the last twenty-six years of her career there. It was there where her passion for gardening, interior design, and sewing was furthered and her creativity blossomed.  Her humor, distinct timeless style, and generous spirit will be remembered and cherished. She gave her time, resources and even opened her home to many of her family members and friends.

Friends may visit Thursday, August 23, 2018, 6pm-9pm at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City where a Vigil Service will be held.   A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10am at St. Kevin’s Church, at 704 Cortland Ave, San Francisco.  Internment at Skylawn Memorial Park to follow.
