Auntie Petronila Tabudlo Blank recently lost her beloved husband, Norman Blank, to cancer on October 19, 2017. She was his primary caretaker for the last three years upon his diagnosis. He fought a good fight and passed peacefully at home in her company.
Their relationship is truly one for the books filled with adventure, laughter, joy, and a one of a kind love; so it isn’t a surprise that Auntie would devote herself to the caretaking of her beloved partner.
Her selfless heart touched the community as she continued providing for family, friends, and fellow elders with counsel, healing, dance, monetary loans, nourishing meals, her medicinal garden and her gentle, compassionate wisdom. Her big heart gives from a bottomless source because it is simply her nature and we are a happier, healthier community because of it.
We cannot imagine the heartbreak Aunty Petronila is facing right now and how much she must miss Norman. We hold space for her grief in this time.
Although Auntie is the most vital, youthful, energetic and generous 71 year old we’ve ever met, we have all witnessed her health decline in the last few years and the balance of her life tip significantly.
Auntie Petronila needs our help. She has lost Norman’s social security and is currently living off of $1000/month with bills that are doubled of what she currently lives off of.
As Auntie grieves, heals, and finds her bearings again she could use our monetary help in paying for Norman’s medical bills, for her own healing and self care with her recently developed health issues, for food, for house bills and for daily living expenses.
The stress of financial and health survival shouldn't be a burden to be carried by our elders. They have already given so much to us and this World with their years of support and wisdom. Our future continues to grow and thrive because of it.
So now let us return the love that Auntie Petronila has provided us all and give back to a woman who has touched so many. We are certain that our entire community will be able to come together and give back to this generous Elder during her time of grief and need.
