August Corps Summer Intensive

Donation protected
August Corps has some big summer plans, and we need YOUR HELP in bringing them to fruition! (For quick info-- watch the video above!)

This summer we are building our summer intensive at The Farm, as well as developing our new show "ECHO" which we will be performing in the Cavern Spaces at the end of our two week program!

About The Farm

The Farm is an 860 acre family-owned working strawberry farm in Northern Alabama, nestled at the base of Sand Mountain. The Jones family is descended from the original homesteaders and still work the land today to the eighth generation. On the land sits fields, forest, natural spring creeks, mountain bluff and a cavern with electric lighting and walking path, as well as campsites, a gift shop,  and other brick and mortar buildings from when the family ran a tourism business there. Over the next few years our company will be re-purposing this incredible property to develop it into a campus for workshops, retreats, intensives, summer festivals, and so much more!

This summer August Corps will hold our first summer intensive for two weeks in July with actors from both NYC and Alabama! This time will be devoted to ensemble training and development of our new show culminating in a workshop performance in the Cavern space for a local audience at The Farm.

The Farm is located two hours outside of Birmingham, AL and 45 minutes from Chattanooga, TN. Our hope is that this property will not only serve as a home away from home for August Corps, but as both inspiration for new work and the backdrop for its harvest for years to come.

About "ECHO"

"ECHO" is our current play in development, inspired by the tale from Ovid’s Metamorphosis about a nymph who is transformed by her love for Narcissus into “a voice amongst stones”. Our adaptation exposes the myth’s themes of intimacy and violence, sacrificial love, and loss of identity. We will be using original folk music as well as ensemble based movement to help re-imagine this timeless story for a new audience.

Our performance in the Cavern Spaces on July 20th will serve as our first workshop of this new piece, which we plan to bring back to New York for a full production in the fall.
