On May 26th, my mother Audrey drove herself to Urgent Care after an 8 hour work day. She had not been feeling well for over a week, and had been having trouble breathing. She was transported to the hospital immediately, and was admitted that night.
What followed was a barrage of tests, scans, and temporary treatments. She was diagnosed with heart failure, among other things. Further tests showed blockages, and an aneurysm on her heart that prevented stents as a solution, and that required open heart surgery.
Once the surgery was complete , there were complications that required her to stay in Cardiac ICU much longer than most post-op patients. She left the hospital June 30th for a Health and Rehab facility. Now, at the behest of the insurance company, she is home. She remains on oxygen, and has peripheral issues that affect her recuperation.
Any financial assistance for which she applies takes into consideration that she is employed, despite the fact she has not been able to work since the end of May. She is technically “on leave”, but without pay. This leaves her with medical bills for an extended hospital stay, co-pays for future doctors appointments, insurance payments to make sure that what they cover is covered, and the regular day to day bills (house, car, etc.) that would normally be paid with the salary she is no longer bringing in.
At this time she should be focused on the healing of her body, not whether or not she can cover her medical bills. We would welcome, and be thankful for any donations that could help offset this immense expense. We would welcome, and be thankful for any amount that gives her the ability to heal without the suffering that comes from worrying about what payments to make, and what arrangements need to be made.
Anyone who knows her knows that she is one of those people who would do anything for anyone. She has worked all her life, and now she just needs to recover. Please do what you can to help her heal in peace.
