A Roof for my School

This past April, I was visiting with my family in Sri Lanka and went on a visit to the school that I attended as a young child. In fact, my whole family has attended this school, but only I was able to receive the higher education thanks, in large part, to the generosity of the monastery I attended and the good teachers there. This school has provided me with a quality education and I feel obligated to help them in their time of need. I would like to ask you for your help. Currently the school has about 63 students, with about 6 to 7 students per class. Despite this low enrollment, the school is in desperate need of a new roof, among many other things. The principal told me that when it rains, they have to move the students around the room to find spots that aren’t leaking. Living in a very tropical country, you can imagine how often students are shuffled around the building to avoid getting themselves and what little school supplies they have wet and ruined. The school is in a very rural area and the government does not help with any sort of financial assistance. While I was visiting, the principal gave me a tour. I was shocked to see how little this school had. On one wall were two iron cabinets that served as their library and next to it were two other cabinets that housed their science equipment. There was no laboratory. They were trying to convert an old hut outside to use as a library, but right now this hut is without a door and the walls do not go all the way up to the roof. I realized I wanted to help them. The purpose of creating this page is to ask for your help to raise $5,000 to rebuild the school’s roof. In fact, the students’ and principal’s only request was, “Please fix the roof for us.” Since I cannot afford that much money, I decided to create this page and ask for your help. Any little bit helps and together we can make a tremendous change for these youngsters. I really appreciate it!
