Athanasius Medical Expenses

Donation protected

On March 24th, Athanasius was found to have a large tumor (softball size) growing inside him.  From Chippewa Falls, WI, he was sent to the Minneapolis Children's Hospital for further testing and diagnosis.  What first was thought to be neuroblastoma has since been diagnosed as a Rhabdoid tumor in his abdomen.  A large tumor is present behind one of Athanasius’ kidneys with multiple spots on the liver and there is lymph node involvement in the area around the heart.  In addition, it looks like the tumor previously ruptured and spread fluid throughout his abdomen.  This fluid tested positive for tumor cells, which means they are potentially all over his abdomen.  However, there is no indication that it is in his brain or bone marrow.  He is currently undergoing chemo treatments.

The medical future for Athanasius is uncertain, but his parents (Christian and Lisa) are with him.  They have put their trust in God and the wonderful doctors and nurses who are treating Athanasius with skill, love, and compassion.  Word has begun to spread about Athanasius and the prayers from family and friends are growing by the hour.  They are so very much appreciated.  In praying for Athanasius, Lisa and Christian are asking for the intercession of Dr. Brendan McGuire who was a professor at Christendom College.  Dr. McGuire beat cancer four times before passing on October 9, 2020.  (https://www.christendom.edu/news/remembering-dr-brendan-mcguire/

At this early stage of Athanasius' diagnosis and treatment, the costs for treatment are also unknown, but will likely be significant.  We've told Lisa and Christian to do whatever is best for Athanasius and not to worry about expenses.  In the meantime, we have established this gofundme account for anyone who wishes to contribute in a financial way to Athanasius' treatment and recovery.  All of the funds will be provided to Christian and Lisa to go toward expenses related to Athanasius' treatment and recovery.  Whether you contribute financially or not, we ask you to please pray for Athanasius and his parents.

Thank you very much for your love, prayers, and support.  I am not sure how we will keep everyone updated on his condition over time, but I am happy to field calls and questions on behalf of Lisa and Christian as they shower their love and support on Athanasius.

Gob Bless,

Papa Foos
