Help an Asylee Save Her Family

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

I am writing to ask for your help. A client I represent is nearing the end of an extraordinary - and horrendous - journey. She was an integral part of a political party in an African country that has resisted one of the worst dictators in recent memory. Her efforts included running political campaigns,  documenting women's rights abuses, assisting and treating women, and educating and empowering local villagers on their various rights. Tragically, she is also a victim herself. She has been assaulted numerous times, and survived a devastating, horrific attack by the country's youth militia that is beyond words. She successfully received Asylum in the US earlier this year, but is now desperately working to bring her family over.

She quickly found a job here in the US and has been saving every penny. Unfortunately time is of the essence. Election season is drawing near in her home country - and her family has been targeted due to their political affiliations.

The money needed will go towards extensive medical costs for the entire family required for visa processing out of the country - in addition, we are hoping to contribute to one-way ticket airfare for each family member, which will increase dramatically due to our shortened time frame.

I have my client's blessing to share parts of her story and the following statement that she wrote below:

"I am a fourth born out of 8 children. I am married and I have 4 children, 7, 8, 14 and 17. As a girl, I grew up in a community that looked down upon a girl child and treat girls as second class citizens. I was full of dreams and hopes of proving to my community and the world that a girl child can rise to the top. My dream was to fight for safer human existence in my country. I felt I was on my way when I became the first girl in my family and community to make it to college and obtain a bachelor's degree.

But my dreams and hopes were stripped from me by the tyrannic government from my country through torture, harassment and humiliation that I suffered from in their hands. I was constantly threatened with death and exposed to the worst human torture.  I was separated from my children, but managed to place them in refuge with family members and well wishers (pastors) in different places. My husband has been  in hiding and on the run for nearly three years now.  My heart is bleeding inside me.

I was granted asylum by the US government in February 2017. Since I have been away from home, my family has been constantly harassed by the government agents. I petitioned for my family and them were granted approval by the US government to join me in the USA. This will remove them from the torture and harassment that they are experiencing and it will give me and my children the opportunity to experience family life.

I am therefore seeking $7 000.00 to help my 4 children and husband to go through the medical tests that are required for visa processing and the one way air tickets from Africa. Thank you."

Thank you so much for consideration - any amount will help considerably, and my client and I cannot express how grateful we are.
