Help Adrian with his cancer BATTLE.

This page is to help Adrian Wammack with medical and related expenses that he has incurred due to his five year fight with cancer. Adrian isn’t famous, hasn’t done anything to land himself in the news, he is just an average man fighting as hard as he can to battle the monster known as cancer.

Five years ago he was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. It is supposed to be the “best” cancer to have if you have to have cancer, the survival and cure rate is very high. He had surgery where they removed his complete thyroid as well as numerous infected lymph nodes in his neck and some that had started to creep into his chest. The doctor said it was much more extensive than the tests and biopsies had shown. He then did a round of high dose radioactive iodine that required a five day isolation.

One year later he was back in the operating room to remove another large amount of infected lymph nodes. During surgery his carotid artery was nicked while the doctor attempted to remove one of the lymph nodes that had attached to it. During the same surgery one of his vocal cords was also damaged. He woke having almost no voice and a perpetual sore throat. He had to enter into physical therapy where he had to teach his body to swallow properly so he would not choke on his own saliva and so he could eat. He also had to strengthen his vocal cords so he could be understood in more than a horse whisper, and not have pain when he spoke. Right after surgery he was only able to be clearly understood with the use of a white board.

Five short months later he was back in the operating room once again undergoing surgery to remove cancer ridden lymph nodes that had spread around his neck and even further down into his chest.

Some may be asking why hasn’t he done chemo and radiation treatments? While Thyroid cancer tends to be one of the easiest treated when it doesn’t respond to “normal” treatments there are not a lot of options because it doesn’t respond at all to chemo and radiation.

After the third surgery it was found that his para thyroid had stopped working and was not restarting. Your Para thyroid controls the calcium in your body and without enough calcium your body will start to shut down and you will drop into a coma and die. If you have too much calcium then you organs will start to malfunction and you can also die. Too little or too much calcium can also cause heart problems such as a heart attack. Since that time Adrian has ended up in the ER at least once every three months if not more frequently with low calcium.

No matter what the doctors did they could not seem to get his calcium to stay in normal ranges. Many times it required hospitalization for a day or so. In January he was in the ER three times in one week. Each month sense he has been in the ER at least once if not more. He was also told the cancer has grown back once again but not quite enough for surgery yet. He was seeing his Dr. every three to four weeks to keep track of him very closely with frequent blood work.

At the end of April he started feeling badly. The Dr. could not explain why. The start of May on Sunday the 3rd he was taken to the ER where he was subsequently admitted for seven days. He was in 80 percent kidney failure. His calcium was very high which he has never encountered before. Since then he has had another ER trip and is now having blood word done weekly as well as seeing the Dir. weekly. He is going to a new specialist to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of his body, or perhaps another kind all together. He has been out of work for nine weeks, and will be out for at least two more.

He is a wonderful and caring person who never asks for anything for himself. This page is being put up for him because he needs the help. With being out of work for so long, and all the times in the past few years he has been out of work and the thousands and thousands of dollars in medical bills he continues to incur daily. We are asking you to help this brave man in his battle against cancer because he wouldn’t do it himself.

If you can help in any way big or small he will appreciate it greatly. If you come across this and cannot help in any way monetarily we ask you to send prayers and well wishes. Adrian believe that prayers can be every bit as good if not better than money sometimes! Thank you for taking the time to read this page!
