ADELANTE's Scholarship Fund

We are pleased to have exceeded our goal for 2017 of expanding ADELANTE Student Voices (ASV) to become a year-round mentorship network, and to welcome students from more regions of rural New York! Our goal for 2018 is to help empower our students to find their voices to become the next generation of lawyers, educators, doctors, activists, and engaged community members of all professions.  This year, members of ASV stood up to becoming involved in self-advocacy within their schools and communities. We now have the ability to provide undocumented high school and college students with improved access to information and peer networks on a larger scale.  In these uncertain times, with DACA and our students futures’ under attack, the need for access to resources; such as legal services for these underrepresented regions is more necessary than ever.   We need your help to continue to provide the help these communities need.

As you might know, ADELANTE Student Voices was founded in the fall of 2015 to give rising sophomore, junior and senior undocumented high school students a safe space to ask and answer questions about their legal status and the college registration process. 

The program informs undocumented high school students about higher education by implementing a series of workshops, panel discussions, college tours, and one-on-one sessions that develop a personalized high school plan of action to ensure their success. ADELANTE introduces undocumented students to opportunities available to them under U.S. law, in turn empowering them with the necessary knowledge to apply to college. In addition, by creating a safe, emotionally healing space for our students, we help them share with each other their stories of hardship, express such stories creatively through art and through this process build together a long-term support network. As their voices grow stronger together, they find an amazing strength to speak up and share their stories with the world. This year, members of ADELANTE stood up to become involved in advocacy in their schools and communities.

So, to make a  10-day summer overnight program and year-round mentorship and advocacy network a reality for 20 more students, we need to raise a total of $29,000. In this stage of fundraising, we are seeking your donations to contribute to our new Scholarship Fund!  We seek to help our scholastic superstars in achieving their academic goals.  With the help of a grant from North Star Fund, we are able to fund our program, but your donations will help our students close the gap between limited private financial aid and a large need. Your donations of $20, $10 and even $5 will make a difference. No matter how much you give, every little bit counts!
