Asuka Conyer's 2021 NTPS District 3 Campaign

Asuka Conyer is the youngest candidate (at age 19) for the District 3 seat in the North Thurston Public School Board in Lacey, Washington. She is a 2020 Graduate from River Ridge High School who aspires to change the current state of NTPS by bringing the perspectives of students, staff, and community back together. As a current student of UW Tacoma, She hopes to utilize her experiences as a student advocate and speaker; as well as her activism in the Black Student Union Coalition of NTPS to serve the NTPS community in full action.
With her upbringing as a LGBTQ+ identifying, half Black, and half Japanese student, she holds a strong stance in providing a perspective that uplifts a community of all backgrounds, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and those historically underserved by NTPS.

In order to achieve this change, Asuka prioritizes making choices for NTPS that accurately represent the diverse demographic of our community, as our district is in dire need of reform. A few of the ways she hopes to accomplish this includes:
1. Implementing Transparency
Creating clear lines of communication between students, caregivers, educators, district officials, and school board members to rebuild trust and community.
In order to achieve this change, Asuka prioritizes making choices for NTPS that accurately represent the diverse demographic of our community, as our district is in dire need of reform. A few of the ways she hopes to accomplish this includes:
1. Implementing Transparency

2. Fiscal Responsibility
Putting a stop to the prioritization of funding district aesthetics (such as district office remodels and P. R) and instead prioritizing a distribution of funds into Student, Staff, and community needs. (such as proper staff pay, hiring of qualified mental health professionals, and students in need.)
3. Representation
Actively seeking out diverse and underrepresented voices in our community, as well as repairing the decades of distrust NTPS has created between the district and BIPOC communities. The prioritization of student voices will also improve educational outcomes across the demographic we serve.
4. Discipline Reform/ Institutional Reform
Abolishing Zero-Tolerance Policies that directly filter/criminalize BIPOC students into the School to Prison Pipeline; As well as Mandating further staff training on Anti- R*pe culture/ S*xu*al Harassment prevention & reporting.
