Hi, my name is Susan Day and I am a children's author and illustrator. I have created over 15 books in the Astro's Adventures series of children's books. I am currently about to publish a new book to help children become more resilient against negative events.
I want to send a copy of this book to every school and library in the country.
The book is called Astro is Down in the Dumps . It has been created to give children tips and skills to help them fight depression and anxiety.
The book is written in verse and the illustrations are colourful, fun and larger than life. Our story begins with Astro feeling so blue he can't get out of bed. His friends drop by and tell him what they do to lift their spirits when they are feeling sad.
This book was created to help stem the terrible incidents of youth suicide. If young children can develop skills to cope with sadness and resilience to get through tough times they are less likely to take their life.
In Australia alone, 7 people lose their lives each day from suicide. A further 200 a day attempt suicide. I can't imagine what the figures are worldwide - it's too shocking. (These figures are from Life Line)
It is my goal to send a free copy of this book to every school and library in the country. That's where I need your help.
The book is 72 pages and will be produced in full colour. The cost can be kept to just $20 a book which includes postage costs. I am trying to raise enough money to purchase and send the first 100. If I raise more, I'll send more books!
The book is in the final stages of editing and production. I estimate that it will be ready for publication in early February 2015.
