Asters For Mina

My mother was disabled, chronically and terminally ill for eight years and in that time, her savings poured into her medical expenses and cost of living. As those who know us well, we live a simple life.  As anti-capitalists we have shaped a happy and rich life for ourselves with very little money but are happy, healthy and are lucky to have full bellies and a roof above our heads. But as many have experienced, in the throes of capitalism the act of dying is expensive. There is no grieving period offered, funeral expenses need to be paid, and all the medical bills and whatever debts our loved ones leave this world with. We rely on our savings to get us through the winter months when our money making potential/work comes to a halt. With covering the costs of my mom's funeral , medical bills and miscellaneous bills, we have used up our savings and we're now in the debt zone, using credit cards to cover the rest. This is super uncomfortable for me to articulate. Thoughts of shame come up - why can't I afford to pay for all of this? Why don't I have a large family who can support me through this process? How are we going to pay rent next month? I'm trying to re-write these stories but I admit I am a daughter of a refugee, single mother, not-asking-for-nothing kinda of person, who taught me to work hard for everything I have. So here goes ... my mother's goddaughter put together this fundraiser, If you are able to support or share this in any way, we would be so very grateful. Mina has an unforgettable face. Many people may recognize her from the deli at the Shoprite in Vails Gate. She was an amazing strong woman who has not had one, but two battles against cancer. She stuck it out and  fought a long and hard battle with grace and always a smile on her face. She passed away with her family and close friends by her side peacefully on January 12th, 2018. We've put together this campaign for anyone who'd like to show support to the family to cover the costs of her Medical bills and funeral expenses. Mina's wishes were to spend her last moments with her family and for her children & grandchildren to carry on with their Persian culture, throughout their lives happily.  Thank you so much for your love and support.
