Assisting An Impoverished Ethiopian Health Clinic

Hello all,

My name is Ruth Golla and I am currently a junior in high school in Seattle, Washington. I am hoping to raise funds to purchase an electrical generator as well as medical supplies for the Polyclinic in Gondar, Ethiopia. My mother grew up living next to the Polyclinic in Gondar and she informed me about the poor working conditions within the clinic due to their severe shortage in necessary medical supplies. Curable illnesses like malaria, the flu, HIV/AIDS, go untreated within the clinic because they simply do not have enough materials or funding. As a result, there have been millions of preventable deaths in Gondar. In response to the polyclinic's request, I intend to purchase an electricity generator, bandaids, gloves, gowns, and other emergency sanitation and hygiene products to alleviate some of the burden within the Polyclinic. Teenage girls, especially, lack access to information regarding feminie care and have limited access to feminine hygiene products. Globally, girls miss up to one hundred days of school a year due to lack of femine hygiene products. One of my goals is to ensure that girls in Gondar can continue to attend school, even during their menstruation cycle. Additionally, it is of utmost importance that all individuals, particularly children, are not suffering as a result of preventable diseases.

Furthermore, there has been an ongoing war in Ethiopia which has caused great detriment to the health of many citizens. An influx of people have been seeking medical treatment; however, a majority of them are not provided with the proper care because of financial hardship.
