Assistance for Travis Brown Jr.'s Recovery

Donation protected
On Friday, 9/11/20 we never would have imagined that our lives would be forever changed. My deepest fear always was to get a call saying my son had been involved in a car accident. Never in a million years would I have imagined getting a call that he had been shot. As he was leaving from seeing his cousin he heard gun shots rang out. He ran behind what he thought was a safe place and that safe place turned out to be a vehicle they were allegedly shooting at. He was struck just above the ankle. The bullet shattered his bone and severed his artery. He had to undergo emergency surgery and the end result was lower extremity amputation of his left leg. Some may say wrong place at the wrong time. I wonder how could he be at the wrong place when he was in the neighborhood his God Parents live in, a neighborhood he visited regularly since birth. Without a doubt, it was the wrong time. Everyone that knows Travis knows he would never knowingly put himself an a situation that would cause him or others harm.
Travis was taught to always face an obstacle head on no matter how challenging the obstacle may be. To always be optimistic and to focus on the positive and not dwell on the negative. To never worry about someone else’s perception of him because people will always think what they want to think, as long as he knows who he is that’s all that matters. These lessons and the will to be able to be the same person he was for his two year old daughter (as she says, “his best friend”) are what’s getting him through. He was taught to forgive, not because people will always be deserving of his forgiveness, but because he deserves peace. So we pray for the family of and the person/people who may be responsible, as they have truly lost their way. He has been so strong throughout this entire tragedy. His spirit and resilience will not allow us to be sad. He is so full of joy and happiness even during this difficult time. We thank and praise God for sending his guardian Angels to protect his life. He has a long road ahead to recovery and an even longer road learning to navigate with prosthesis.
Due to the outpouring desire of support from family and friends a go fund me account has been created to assist with medical bills and prosthetics as he learns to cope with his new normal. I want to thank each of you that have reached out, contributed and most of all prayed. It’s a wonderful feeling to know so many people love our son!
