I am Tammy, I'm Maxine's daughter. I am also her caregiver. Recently, as of September 18th, my mom was admitted and had to have surgery for a perforated ulcer. She also became septic, and overnight she had to be put on a ventilator and sedated. During the time she was sedated, she ended up having small strokes and a more serious one. (I'm trying to do this the best I can). She wasn't getting much better; she was on the ventilator (the tube down her throat) and sedated for a couple of weeks, and they then had to put in a tracheostomy so she could get off sedation fully. Once she was more stable, she was transferred to a facility that was trying to wean her off the ventilator completely and would be able to start doing physical therapy and all to try to help her get better. She had a complication and had to go back to the hospital. She has dealt with a lot of infections, and she is bleeding in her abdomen. We are now at that point we do not have much longer. We have tried everything we can, and now at the point we do anything more, it is only harming her and won't help her. As the doctors have said, we would only be doing more to her, not for her. We may only have days left. She is in ICU and has been there for a few weeks. During this time, our family is struggling otherwise, and I am asking for help to be able to get her cremated and to have a celebration of life for her when the time comes. Any help will be very much appreciated.
My mom is one of the kindest women I've ever known; she would help anyone she could, even with her last dollar. She loves her family with her whole heart and soul. We have been struggling with so much; she also just got done with radiation from cancer back in August, which may have been the cherry on top to cause the burst ulcer. I just want to mention that also, as we have been through so much, especially in the last year with her health. I have been with her every step, one way or another. When the time comes, we will have to get her transferred back to Minnesota from Missouri. I don't know yet at this time how that's going to happen or how much it's going to cost. I will update. I am asking for whatever help we can get. My siblings, my family, and I would very much appreciate and be forever grateful. Thank you.
