Hi my name is Isabel, I am the granddaughter of Alfa Araujo- Gil. I am trying to raise money for my grandmother’s cremation/funeral expenses. We have been having a hard time with this process and all of energy and funds went towards trying to elongate her life with special care and treatments. I would greatly appreciate any donations towards helping us put her to rest. If those who aren’t able to if you could please take the time and pray for our family.
A little story about my grandma.
Alfa Araujo de Gil was born on January 12, 1950 in San Cristóbal Venezuela. She was raised by her mother Leonarda Sandoval and her father José Ignacio Araujo. At the age of 24 Alfa meet the love of her life Julio Gil Peñalver and was soon married and had three children Maria Gil, Gabriel Gil, and Junior Gil. Alfa wanted something more for her children since Venezuela was under a dictatorship so she took the risk and move to a country to restart her life with her new family. Alfa and Julio worked side by side for many years to keep their family afloat. Alfa’s ambition, strength, bravery gave her children inspiration to take their own paths and live a better life like how she had envisioned when she first came to America. My grandmother was a strong woman with character and prioritized putting food on the table than her own health. This unfortunately contributed to her health slowly declining over the years she worked. My grandmother’s health condition remained hidden due to the lack of resource, money, and time. God blessed my grandmother with her citizenship in March 20, 2021. All her hard work had finally paid off. Alfa soon started to seek medical attention for her underlining conditions. Not soon after in December 2022 she was diagnosed with stage 3 small cell lung cancer, she had a 9mm nodule the size of a grapefruit in her lung. This had came to a shock to our family. We had delayed treatment for 6 months trying to determine what treatments we were going to move forward with and for the next year and a half we strictly stuck to a treatment plan to help slow the rate of the cancer in her body. Alfa attended many chemo therapy’s and cancer treatments but unfortunately we weren’t able to catch it in time. The cancer had already spread to the lymph nodes, spinal cord and metastasized in the skull. She lost the ability to walk on her own but she refused to have this stop her in her journey. She had broken her femur trying to stand up on her own this showed us how strong of a person she was but this made has worsen the cancer and accelerated the disease. In April 2024 doctors confirmed she was now stage 4 terminal cancer. Alfa had a strong will on recovering from this illness, she fought back with all her strength.
My grandmother’s spirit, love and character was never brought down even at her final moments.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, children, and nine grandchildren. Alfa will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
