<div>Unfortunately, late last year <strong>Connie had to undergo 2 major surgeries to have a mastectomy done to reduce her risk of breast cancer</strong> which she had previously tested positive for two of the indicator genes. One of these surgeries was an emergency surgery and had to be done out of network due to a severe infection that occurred during her recovery from the first surgery. These costs, combined with the amount of missed work and lost wages due to recovery, have put our family in a tough financial situation.

<div>My mom had to take a deferment on our house mortgage, which combined with the recent rise in property taxes has caused the mortgage to double, taking up almost all of her paycheck before taking any other expenses into account. My brother and I try to provide as much assistance as we can with our part-time jobs, but with both of us still in college, the expenses are adding up too fast and <strong>put us all at risk of losing the house with nowhere to go</strong>. We tried to hold out as long as possible to get ourselves out of this pit, but we're very close to the breaking point and making this GoFundMe is our very last resort.
