Assemble !: Lesly in Navigating Her Gender Affirming Surgery
Donation protected
I’m Nathalie Nia Faulk (she/her ), a Black Trans Femme in Louisiana. For the past decade, I’ve been doing organizing and healing justice work across the country, and particularly in the South!I’m writing to you to invite you to stand in solidarity for a Trans sister of mine who has given so much to her community. We are elated to share that Lesly Unique Gooden, a Black Transgender Woman living in New Orleans is preparing for a gender affirming surgery! While we celebrate this, we know that there are many barriers inside and outside of our healthcare system. This is reflected in recent Louisiana bills passed ( HB648 : a ban on gender affirming care.).
We know that when we come together, we create systems of support that the state refuses to. It is with this, that we are calling for our people to show up. Lesly ,is seeking support in making sure her experience with this procedure is as smooth as possible. In order to do this, we are asking community members to donate to this go fund me or to share as far and wide as possible. Will you commit to sharing this with one person today?
Lesly has for years, been a fierce advocate for her community. This includes, organizing as a member of BreakOUt!, being chosen as a Fellow of the Muhlasysia Booker Travel Fund at TRANScend retreat ( where she was responsible for maintaining the morale of the collective - which often took the form of laughter and dance), and has contributed to many creative and political initiatives. Outside this, Lesly has touched so many of us with her generosity, nurturing spirit, and her ability to bring light into the darkest of situations.
It’s easy for me and so many to show up for Lesly, because she has provided so much for not only me, but for our entire community.
With your support we can make this possible!
These funds will provide Lesly the opportunity to:
- Receive the best health care as she navigate gender affirming surgery
- Safe recovery housing post surgery
- Meals and substances for up to a month
- Prescriptions and other healing aides
- Travel to and from procedure.
Anything helps, even a share! Lesly gives so much joy and care to the community, so its time for us to give it back!
Can you please share with your networks.
Now is the time, invest in Black Trans Futures!
