Our story-

in spring of 2023, we had just moved away from our home in Hamilton, to be closer to Mason’s side of the family in Florida! I had just gotten into my 3rd trimester, when we had found out from my new doctor, that our son would be born with a rare, congenital heart condition, called Tetralogy of Fallot. To say that we were both shocked is a severe understatement. We were under the impression from my previous doctor that the rest of my pregnancy would be smooth sailing, and that our son was in perfect health. Next thing you know, I am being monitored weekly by my doctor, Having multiple ultrasounds before my due date, and preparing for the potential of my son having open heart surgery as a newborn. We were overwhelmed. I was scared. It was nothing like I envisioned, while expecting my first child. Now that my pregnancy was considered high risk, even the way I wanted to have my son was changed. Although the birth of our son was the most amazing time of our lives… So much was also simultaneously taken away from us that we were dreaming of. Every parent should have the opportunity to celebrate and be full of joy over the birth of their children, especially their first child… And while that was our experience, it was also accompanied by so much fear… So many what if’s… so many unknowns. Luckily, thanks to God, I was still able to have a natural delivery with our son. No epidural, no induction, no C-section… He was only in the NICU for four days. In spite of the severity of what was happening in his heart, on the outside he was doing perfectly- and has been ever since! Although his heart condition is so complex, and the condition has been considered severe, on the outside you would absolutely never know he has been diagnosed with such a condition. We had some major problems in regards to insurance when he was born and during his first month of life. To make a very long story short, we were terribly screwed over by the insurance I am personally on… we were told by multiple people, on multiple different phone calls, that he was automatically covered, by the insurance I am on, for his first month of life. We were ecstatic that we were going to have that coverage, because that would give us time to put him on Mason’s insurance with his work. Come to find out, he was never covered for the first 30 days of his life, and there was no way for him to receive coverage for that time. It’s a very messy story… that has put us into over $30,000 worth of debt that we thought we would never have to pay. Now that you add his procedure and over a weeks worth of hospital stay, multiple different practitioners coming to see him, the list goes on… We are certainly not looking forward to the overall total that we will have to take care of. It is such a vulnerable position to be in, especially when you are just trying to do everything in your power to make sure your son is as healthy as he can possibly be. Mason and I are never ones to ask for any type of help like this… We believe in working hard to take care of our own problems. But this personally just feels so much bigger than ourselves, and we realize that it’s something that feels impossible to fully take care of on our own, unless we want debt for the rest of our lives. If you would be willing to sow into our journey with our son, literally anything would make a difference. Even if you are just able to give five dollars, I promise you it will lift such a burden off of our shoulders. We’ve already been so blessed by the generosity of others, and we know that the blessing of generosity will meet us again in this need of ours. Thank you, if you have made it this far in reading… And if you do feel compelled to give, we know that the Father will for sure bless you and your generosity… Because that is who he is, and what he does! Thank you so much for all the love, and for all of the prayers that we have been receiving from you guys. It has absolutely meant the world, and we know that one day we will be able to tell our son so many God-stories from this time period of his life. ❤️
