Ashma Bhola's Birthday Fundraiser for ANIMALSHIELD

My birthday is coming so I've started this birthday fundraiser to fund AnimalShield's new initiative 'Wildlife Collision Prevention Program'. 

AnimalShield is a registered nonprofit in Canada and it's 100% volunteer-run which means not even $1 goes to us for any of the work we do. Our mission is to shield animals from suffering across the world. Currently, we focus on stray and wild animals in India.

AnimalShield is partnering with Echo Eco Foundation to install 25 roadkill warning signs on various highways connecting to Nashik city in Maharashtra. Why signs? Because human travel and animal travel routes frequently occur along the same lines, some animals wander and come close to roads and get killed by high-speed cars. 


The Wildlife Warning Signs would be located in areas of frequent wildlife use and high collision risk locations. The sign warns of a hazard ahead and advises drivers to be cautious, thus reducing the likelihood of a mishap. The signs will last on our busy highways for at least the next 10 years. 

Our partner already started with placing 4 boards and we plan to cover all the sensitive areas around Nashik. The team surveyed major roads and highways around the city, made a count of animals lost to speeding vehicles during day and night, in different seasons, and figure out the sensitive corridors. Our aim for this project is to place "wildlife warning signs" in these corridors and sensitize people regarding the roadkill issue.

Roadkills are one of the major yet most neglected threats to our precious wildlife. Roads take away major habitat from wildlife. Animals use roads for migration, the search for food, and water. DRIVE RESPONSIBLY.
