Ashenafi's funeral service and family support

We don't know where to start and what to say, but we know for sure, We have to share this story with all Ethiopian and human beings. It is so unbelievable that we lost our best friend like a brother, Ashenafi Tefera Mitaw, also known as "Ashu Kebena" due to a deadly Covid-19.

He was in London for a few weeks with his lovely daughter, Betel, to visit his family. After they returned from London, he wasn't feeling good and decided to get checked at Holy Cross hospital. The doctor at Holy Cross told him that he had pneumonia and should take rest at home while isolating himself from his family. Three days later, he decided to see his primary doctor and got diagnosed. As a result, the doctor learned that Ashu had hypoxia and referred him to go to Adventist hospital for more check-up and treatment.

As the doctor said, he went to Adventist hospital, and when they see him, his breathing system was not regular, and they decided to give him a Covid-19 test. The result was unexpected and shocking becuase he became Covid-19 positive. As soon as they found out, they took him to a separate room where Covid-19 patients are and put him on a ventilator. He was on a ventilator almost for two weeks until he passed away this Saturday morning on April 4th, 2020.

Now, his body is at Adventist hospital and will be taken to a funeral home tomorrow. As we all know, the funeral home service is expensive. We have to cover $3600 to store the body at the funeral home. Luckily, the DMV brothers' team collected $1800, and brother Mareg the owner of the "Right Spot Lounge and Bar," donated $2000. We want to thank and appreciate our brother Mareg for his support.

So, we are asking everybody friends and family as well all Ethiopians to help this family what we can. We never expected that we would do any fundraising to help Ashu and his family, but we are obliged to knock every body's door. This is the only option we have to support his family since we are not allowed to be there for the funeral ceremony. We never know who is going to be next to seek this kind of assistant, and let's stretch our hands to this good cause. It doesn't matter how much it is, anything from $1 to what we can works. The money will be used for funeral expenses and to support his family.

P.S. My name is Ermias Seyoum. I am originally from Ethiopia and. I live in Silver Spring, MD. USA.  I have been set up this GoFundMe account to support the deceased close friend and teammate Ashenafi Tefera’s family. The beneficiary is the wife of Mr. Tefera. Her name is Amy Tesfaye. She has been linked her bank account to the GoFundMe account successfully. I have sent an email to the customer support team with including an attachment for confirmation. The fund that has been raised will be a use for Amy Tesfaye and her four years old daughter. The raised fund is very important to Mr. Tefera’s family for their future. I would like to request the GoFundMe team to consider this family situation and release the fund to Amy Tesfaye as soon as possible.
