Ascend Through Music Program

Tax deductible
Ascend through Music is a program of Living Classrooms Foundation providing services in Baltimore City and Washington, DC. The program delivers musical opportunities for kids, teens, and adults to incorporate music into their lives through hands-on activities with instrumental lessons, vocal training, sound production, music ensembles, song writing, and performances. Students gain the tools to express their culture, struggles, and triumphs through music while, at the same time, strengthening essential skills for business and life such as goal setting, planning, scheduling, time management, team building and collaboration.

Several new areas of opportunity for engagement were uncovered during the pandemic. In particular, our mentorship program, “Pulse”, provided by volunteers, thrived through remote learning. Our mentors and mentees formed deep connections through their shared love and study of music.

This Go Fund Me campaign is to raise funds to expand and improve our remote engagement and performance capabilities, including:

Audio and Video Equipment - Purchase of A/V equipment to enable cost efficiencies and the ability to deliver additional services and reach through remote learning, live event and hybrid environments. This also allows access to a larger pool of teachers, mentors and other industry professionals for learning and performances.

Instruments and Recording/Production Equipment - Many of our students are unable to afford their own instruments, severely limiting their opportunity for growth. Ascend Through Music’s Being INstrumental project provides loaners and ownership of instruments and recording/production equipment, free of charge, to as many students as possible. This is an on-going need. Being INstrumental has proven to be an essential element in the progress of our students with demand that currently far exceeds our ability to supply. Funds from this campaign will be applied to the current wait list by repairing donated instruments and purchasing additional instruments for distribution.

Student Showcase - Learning sessions over the last year have been mostly virtual, yet our students have continued to grow by studying, playing and creating amazing music. At our first live student showcase since the pandemic, scheduled for June 18, participating students will have the opportunity to perform what they have learned and created over the last year. The showcase is a hybrid event with recorded performances, featuring original songs, vocalists and instrumentalists. Some funds from this campaign will go towards production, refreshments, and commemorative shirts for students.
