Medical Bills & Related Medical Expenses

Meet the Duggins family of Garrard Co. KY - Lynyel, Dusty, Dawson and Brent.  The littlest guy in the photo is Dawson Duggins. He was 2 yrs old in this picture. He is a happy little boy, loves his family and would rather be playing with a tractor or riding his battery operated John Deere tractor than anything more in the world.  He was born with a rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia.  His bone marrow did not make red blood cells.  On June 2nd, Dawson was admitted to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital and started undergoing chemo treatments necessary to kill off his diseased immune system so he was be able to receive a life saving bone marrow transplant on June 30th.  The donor was his brother Dusty.  And the good news is that Dusty is a 100% match!  That's rare.  It most usually only happens in twins and there was only a 25% chance that Dusty would a 100% match for Dawson, so this was truely a blessing.  The purpose of this fundraiser is to help to pay the mounting medical bills that this little family has been and will be creating. With the transplant, Lynyel & Brent are going to be charged with the costs of 2 surgeries.  Dusty was released to go home the next day after the marrow  harvest.  After the bone marrow transplant, Dawson was in the hospital for 2 months.  Once the doctors confirmed that he was 100% engrafted with the new marrow cells, Dawson was allowed to move next door to the Ronald McDonald House as an outpatient to the hospital.  With good progress, Dawson may get to come home in November.  After Dawson is released to come home, he will be quarantined to his house for up to 1 yr.  We are hoping for that to be a much shorter time because this is a child who loves to be outdoors. One thing we know is that insurance is not going to cover a big portion of the costs.  His mother is staying with him.  She will not be able to work until he is released to come home.  Bills go on even if income does not.  With the family income reduced from 2 to 1 during this time, the family will struggle.  This page's color is green for 2 reasons.  Dawson's favorite color is John Deere green and the color of bone marrow is green!  Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!  Please go check out the Diamond Blackfan Anemia webpage and you will find Dawson's picture there from when he was 2.  If this transplant is successful, our little boy will be cured and he will be able to grow, develop and roughhouse with his brother like brothers are supposed to do!  Thank you for your time and consideration!
