"As It Was" Narrative Short Film

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kayla, and I recently completed a narrative short film for my senior thesis at Tufts alongside some other incredible students, faculty, alum and more.

I'm starting a GoFundMe to help raise funds to cover the costs of festival submissions. This project has been in the works for over a year and a half, and I've poured countless hours into it. From writing the script, directing, editing, writing an original song for the score, and acting as the primary producer . . . "As It Was" and I have been through a lot. At this time, I'm searching for additional funds because festival fees average around $50 per submission, and as a student indie film, much of this project has to come from personal financing. Help me get this film out into the world for people to see :)

Logline: College Senior, Joyce, is haunted by a punk song that disrupts her work and her relationship with her best friend. She can’t seem to shake the tune—until she comes to terms with a traumatic experience.

Content Warning for implied sexual assault.

"As It Was" is very important to me because I set out to make a film surrounding the aftermath of sexual assault without showing the act or even seeing the perpetrator's face. It was challenging to craft this film and the story surrounding the two women characters, but it is crucial for people to experience a film about this topic that is SOLEY centered around the survivor. Film and media often glorify violence and sexual violence, and "As It Was" is an effort to tell a story about a difficult subject without forcing viewers to experience it secondhand, relive trauma, or gratify the assailant in any way.
