Arvin's Heart Transplant

Donation protected
Our “Tin Man” is looking for his heart!

I have been trying to figure out how to start this explanation, but there is no eloquent way for me to say “The love of my life, the most AMAZING father, needs an emergency heart transplant”. Arv is the kindest, sweetest, funniest man more full of life than anyone I have ever met, how can this be real?

I suppose the beginning is the best place to start. 14 years ago,  Arvin caught viral cardiomyopathy and over the years, the functionality of his heart has decreased significantly. Some of you have been on this crazy journey with us . Defibrillators, Pacers, heart failure, AFib, more frequent and longer hospital stays and the list goes on.  NEVER has he complained, and unless you were working a shift at Beaumont and found him  behind the curtain when he showed up as a patient you wouldn't know. Last year and a half, his condition grew increasingly worse spending more time in the hospital then home with his family.

August 18th, crap “hit the fan” and Arv was diagnosed with End Stage Heart Failure and has been hospitalized and has been in the ICU almost every day since. A month ago, he transferred from Beaumont, the place where he works with people that love him (right next door) to Henry Ford in Detroit. We don’t know as many people & Ce. He was SO very blessed that the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant team rallied around him as if he were one of their village all along. I cannot speak enough about their kindness and perseverance in my husband’s care.

On Monday 10/8/18, Arvin was blessed enough to be placed on the National Heart transplant list. He is currently waiting to receive the most selfless gift that a person, a family can give to another human being. The gift of LIFE. His spirits are hopeful, his passion to be here for all of us us SO strong.

The road ahead will be exceedingly difficult for Arv and our family. We have no idea how much of this million dollar procedure will be covered by insurance (Cannot make that price up) throughout his recovery and the fact that he will not being able to work in the foreseeable future. We will lose his insurance soon enough and Cobra will need to be purchased to ensure that there is no gap in coverage or care a secondary plan was also recommended. The staff at Ford have been so caring and honest in with what we should expect. Nothing is pretty, there are no rainbows or unicorns, no guarantees however for the first time in 5 years, we have been given HOPE.

We are so very blessed to have you all in our village. SO very humbled and thankful for the love and support  shown to our family. Thank you for loving our children as your own and surrounding them with fierce unconditional love and support. Caleb is in his JR year of high school and misses his best friend being with him. Michael is doing well in Florida and waiting to come back home to be with Arv when he receives this gift.

So many people have reached out to us asking how to help and until last week, we did not know how to respond.  We had no forward plan until last week, this has been day by day.

It has been HIGHLY recommended that we start a crowd fund as soon as possible, because not even the BEST insurance covers all the unforeseen costs associated with a transplant and the life changes that follow.

God willing, Our Arvin will live a happy, HEALTHY life, full of belly laughs dancing and being ALL of our children’s BIGGEST fan! We will do whatever it takes. I have humbled myself; I will work as many hours as possible to make my family’s life as close too normal as I can.  I will do whatever is necessary to take care of my family, even if it means this.

How can you help? Here are our asks:

PRAYERS, LIGHT and LOVE – Please continue to send! Arvin is here because God has heard our prayers; he is continuing to fight because of the love and support he has received from all of YOU!

Donations – Though every dollar is helpful to us at this point, please only do so if it does not hurt your family, We LOVE you all and are forever humbled and grateful for the support you have provided us. God willing, Arv will continue his life honoring this precious gift of life that he is considered for.

Gift of life – The biggest ask. Just consider, that is all I ask is that you CONSIDER checking that box on the back of your license. My dear village, if it is not against your religious or personal beliefs this is honestly the greatest gift that we can give back to humanity. LIFE!
