Artists Fund Artists

Hello!

Thank you so so so so much for your generous support to Artists Fund Artists recently. We knew artists who could spare some coin no matter how small would step up for other artists who are really struggling and need as much support as possible to be able to keep making art through this time and far into the future.

We decided to do 3 month cycles of fundraising and redistributing so we could respond where most needed. We have had over 300 applications for this 3 month cycle from Black artists of all mediums in the UK, for funds from £50-£500 and we want to be able to support as many as possible. Your donation makes this more likely, but now applications are closed, we still need some more donations to be able to redistribute arts money to those who urgently need it.

If you can, any extra help would be hugely appreciated. The GoFundMe page will be up for another 2 weeks only and then the plan for AFA to raise funds for all future cycles will be via Patreon

Having a monthly amount confirmed will make a huge difference in being able to plan for the three month cycles and how many artists we can help and to what extent. Please consider making a small donation per month as a way to be a long term supporter of other artists.

Patreon also allows you to see exactly how much money is being donated and we will put up exactly where it goes every 3 months - this will only be to artists, as all other work is being done in kind by teams on rotation.

Here is some further info and thank you again:

Artists Fund Artists (AFA) has been established in the UK to get financial help to individual artists from other artists, on a needs-based rather than project-based basis.

By supporting this fund each month with as little as £1 or as much as you can, you are helping to create an artist-fostered and artist-sustained artistic community in a country in which the arts are currently being unapologetically swiped out of the education system and incrementally being defunded. Of course artists supporting artists is not viable as an entire financial solution, but we hope it will help some of those who will otherwise have to give up their practice in this time of uncertainty and governmental disregard for freelance artists.

Artists Fund Artists will be constantly evolving as we go, but for the moment, it operates on a 3 month planning cycle to reflect the fast-changing times we are currently in. Announcements will be made for each cycle about where the next batch of funds raised will be going. We hope that when things are more stable we can have longer-term plans that support all artists who need it.

June/July/August cycle is being redistributed to Black artists from all mediums only.

Sept/Oct/November cycle is being redistributed to underrepresented live arts practitioners only.

The many emergency funds led and distributed by artists to artists during this time has shown that we can and want to support and invest in each other and each other's work.

Artists Fund Artists takes inspiration from these funds and aims to become a long-term project, rather than existing only in times of crisis. With artists, especially those reliant on live performance, hit hugely by Covid-19 and its repercussions, it is time to start building as many viable ways of artists being financially supported as possible.

Everything will be run by artists from all sectors, though the focus during the first year is likely to be those involved in live arts. It will be independent and will not be seeking match funding from any organisations.

We will especially be encouraging higher paid artists to donate generously to this fund, though any amount will be welcome from any artist.

On this page you will be able to see the amount of money that is raised each month and the redistribution of these funds will be written up here.

At the moment, applications in any cycle are on a needs-based urgent basis, with checks done by the team on authenticity of identity, but with a trust that artists know what they need and no further explanations being required.

Thank you so much.
