Artist-Run Performance Studio Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Overview:
A new dance studio fostering experimental dance and performance needs your help!

Why we are doing a gofundme:
Hello friends, we are asking for your help to open a new dance studio in Brooklyn, New York. As our time at our previous artist-run DIY space came to a close, we began looking for a new space to host dance classes and performances... and we found the perfect spot. The venue is enormous and sunny, and will allow us to continue to provide a home for our artistic community of emerging artists. We are eager to move in!

Last week, we were approved for the lease, and now we need your help with the move-in costs for April 15th. With your contribution, you will be ensuring the growth and vitality of the performing arts in New York City. Whatever you can offer is a massive help to our community and us!

Our past:
Having worked collectively as dancers and choreographers, we began a bare-bones studio last year within a live/work space in Ridgewood Queens. The space hosted two dance classes a week, monthly performance events, work in progress showings and community events. In a city bereft of financial support and presentation opportunities for young artists this space was truly life changing and around it a strong community of young dance and performance artists grew. Artist run spaces like these are essential to the survival of art and artists in New York, when our previous space became compromised we knew that we needed to organize to find a new home for our community.

Our future:
We are now looking to expand upon our previous DIY model and open up a commercial studio space for the Ridgewood/Bushwick dance community. This new artist-run space will be a base for performance, run by artists for artists. It will primarily function as a dance class studio and a performance venue with occasional rentals, events, and workshops. Working to support dance and performance makers in the Brooklyn area, this larger commercial studio space will allow us to expand our class sizes, studio schedule and operating hours. We plan on becoming a self sustaining studio, and intend to apply for non-profit status within the next year, but we need some initial help launching this project into reality.

Your contribution continues to provide opportunities for emerging dancers and performing artists in New York City, a city where resources for young artists are already scarce.

Thank you for your support!
